A Big Life: Spice Up Your Resolutions

Sissy has some great tips to help you stay on track with eating healthy and exercising in the New Year:
  1. Eating healthy doesn't mean that you are stuck with celery and carrot sticks, boring salads and tasteless grilled chicken. Search for new, healthy recipes at MSN.com's Food & Entertaining section or other recipe websites.
  2. Search for recipes that include foods you like. For instance, your favorite fruits can be incorporated in to fun non-alcoholic drinks, desserts and even main courses. Grill some pineapple and serve atop your chicken, doesn't that sound exotic and yummy? These days it's so easy to find healthy recipes and lighter alternatives to bad-for-you favorites (think along the lines of baking some sweet potatoes cut into strips and seasoned with a little sea salt and pepper versus regular French fries. It's the same experience, just a healthy version.). You'll be more apt to stick with eating healthy if you like what you are eating.
  3. Try introducing new spices and flavors into your recipes. Be brave and grab a spice from the rack that maybe you haven't even opened yet. Garlic, ginger, lemon or lime juice, fresh herbs and spices, all of these can alter the taste of your chicken and fish. Use your imagination and combine different flavors to find what you like.
  4. Stop thinking of exercise as a routine! There are so many fun, new workouts to choose from and incorporate into your daily life. Dancing, boxing, yoga, pilates, even cardio strip-tease. Find your interest then find a class at your local gym or find a video and work out. Before you know it, you will be having so much fun, you won't even remember you are exercising!
  5. Remember to move. We hear it all the time but every little bit does help. Walk whenever and wherever you can. It may take you a little longer to reach your destination but you'll be helping your body in a Big way.
