Angora loving, cross-dressing cult director Ed Wood, the man both vilified and celebrated as the
worst director who ever lived, is the kind of naive dreamer that Tim Burton would have created if he never existed. As
portrayed in a wired, buoyant performance by Johnny Depp, Wood is all ambition
and naïve passion, a filmmaker so in love with the idea of filmmaking that he
lets the rudimentary details slip by, little things like falling scenery and
wobbly props. He presides over his flea-pit filmmaking circus as the world's
most inviting host. It is perhaps the most loving portrait of a filmmaker ever
put on screen. |
