Other actors we'd like to see strip on film By Myriam Gabriel-Pollock While many Hollywood movies feature female strippers, I can count on three fingers the number of male-stripper films I have seen. Now, though, thanks to director Steven Soderbergh, we may have the mother of all male-stripper movies. When actor Channing Tatum told Soderbergh about his former life as an exotic dancer, he probably did not expect the director would make a film about it. But that's exactly what Soderbergh did, and this summer, women — and some men — will be in the theaters, wearing drool bibs when Tatum and company hit the stage. "Magic Mike" centers around Mike (Tatum), an entrepreneurial male stripper who schools his protégé "The Kid" (Alex Pettyfer) on how to make it in the biz. Things get complicated when Mike falls for The Kid's sister: Will she be accepting of his unconventional lifestyle, or will he need to get away from the screaming girls in order to get the girl? Tatum's equally chiseled co-stars must be mentioned: that hairy beast from "True Blood," Joe Manganiello (as Big Dick Richie), Matthew McConaughey (as smarmy strip club owner Dallas), and the aptly named Matt Bomer (as stripper Ken). Cody Horn plays Paige, Mike's love interest, and Olivia Munn is Joanna, Mike's lady friend. From the photos and clips I've seen — and I did a mighty amount of research for this article — they've got all the male-stripper clichés covered: firefighter, construction worker, Navy officer, cowboy, etc. "Magic Mike" opens June 29, and the R rating should ensure that you'll be enjoying the eye candy with fellow adults. Depending on the success of "Magic Mike," there may or may not be more male-stripper films in the future. Let's pretend there are more on the way and have fun with the possibilities, shall we?
