Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal apparently aren't looking to find out how true that whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" theory is. In recent days, the quietly steady squeezes have gone to great lengths to see one another. The Washington Post spotted them dining at a Washington, D.C., eatery Sunday night, just a few hours after the Oscar-winning actress had lent some star power to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. (For those desperate to know the noshing habits of the rich and famous, Reese and Jake shared grilled lamb and octopus, and the actor chowed down on some snails.) Two days earlier, the low-key pair was photographed cuddling up on the South Carolina set of "Nailed," in which Gyllenhaal co-stars with Jessica Biel. "During a break around 6:30 p.m., Reese was so happy to finally get to spend some time with Jake," a spy tells OK!. "They were giggling, teasing each other and holding hands the whole time."

When asked by Us about the possibility of a wedding, Joel Madden pooh-poohed that a vow-swap with Nicole wasn't in the cards "anytime soon." What is on his to-do list is a memorable Mother's Day for his wispier half, who popped out daughter Harlow in January. "I don't have any [plans] yet but I'm going to plan something special," he told the mag as he and Benji hosted a Cinco de Mayo party at a Los Angeles hot spot (Richie stayed home with their tot). "She is a great mom. She is super mom!" Madden might want to ensure the occasion is extra-special now that pics have surfaced of him close-talking at the May 5 bash with Nicole's sometime pal Lindsay Lohan, who arrived at the soiree with suctioned-on BFF Samantha Ronson. Still, a source scoffs at any suggestion of inappropriateness, telling E! News, "He is so devoted to Nicole, and that baby was all he talked about." And Madden made sure to devote the following day to dad duty. He and Nicole hit a Los Angeles baby boutique, where they were seen loading up their SUV with a plethora of ankle-biter accoutrements, before stepping out together that night for a Stella McCartney shindig.

The chanteuse also weighs in on those whispers linking her to Jay-Z, the man responsible for her success (and the newly minted Mr. Beyoncé). "I think it's kinda a cliché question, and people know it's not true, so I don't even know why it's still addressed to this day," she says. "I get asked about it all the time and I'm like, 'You're asking, but you know the answer. I don't even like to address it anymore.'"
