People reports Jen, 39, played paparazzo as she watched John, 30, perform for an hour at the Orange County Convention Center, snapping pictures from backstage. And before his encore of Tom Petty's oh-so-appropriate "Free Fallin'" he stopped to plant one on his tank-topped, jeans-clad squeeze. Still, Mayer may be proceeding with caution. "John says that Jen and he have a physical connection as deep as their spiritual one," one of his buddies cringingly blabs to OK!. "But he also said he's categorizing this as a summer fling for now."

There's nothing like stepping out with the more normal-seeming Olsen twin to boost one's public profile. The New York Post says Ashley Olsen was spied at a New York eatery on Saturday in the company of Justin Bartha, best known for playing Nicolas Cage's big-brained sidekick in the "National Treasure" flicks. "It looked like they were on a date," relays a body language-reading eyewitness, who says Mary-Kate's less hobo-chic half was "holding hands" with the actor and he was "touching her hair." They left the restaurant after about an hour, with Bartha, whose publicist is probably somewhere doing a happy dance, acting like "a complete gentleman" by opening "the door for her when they left." (Is it just us, or is the bar for chivalrous behavior set depressingly low these days? Must just be us.)

But Blake and Penn were all business Tuesday night, when they covered up a good bit of their golden glow while posing at a CW TV promotional event.
