"I've had my heart broken since my divorce." That's Jessica Simpson, sniffling to In Style about her love
life in the post-Nick Lachey era. So, who's the heartbreaker in question? The
smart money is on John Mayer, with whom the rock hard-bodied starlet
reportedly parted ways in June after about a year of inconstant coupledom.
"That's OK," posits Jess, 27. "I believe you fall in love more than once and get
your heart broken more than once. Trust me, I have cried myself to sleep." Once
upon a time, laments a wistful Simpson, she felt like she was "the princess in
the fairy tale -- then reality came crashing in, and I learned that isn't
always how life works." But, on the plus side, she cheers, "I am in complete
control of my life."
Mayer, meanwhile, is steeling himself for the inevitable questions that will
arise from his brand spankin' new ditties, which may or may not be inspired by
his romantic entanglements (he's recently been seen in the company of "Friday
Night Lights" starlet Minka Kelly). "I'm ... ready to accept the fact
that some people will try and read into the lyrics and make gossip out of them,
but I can't worry about that," the crooner, who turned 30 this week, writes on
his blog. "Trying to avoid that would be the worst thing for my songwriting. I
won't let the success I've had make me comfortable, or the media exposure make
me fearful of expressing myself."
So long, random Swedish pizza delivery guy. We hardly knew ye. The
London Sun says Paris Hilton has given the heave-ho to comely backpacker
Alex Vaggo, whom she reportedly met last month outside a Los Angeles hostel.
"She loved his good looks, but she gets bored very quickly, and he was just too
shy and quiet for her," an insider tells the tab. "She likes bad boys." Just
apparently not stringy-haired bad boys with a penchant for fur coats, cigars and
seething bitterness toward hypermammiferous exes. Paris is denying reports linking her to Kid Rock after the two were spotted out together last
weekend in Toronto.
Kristen Bell's life has gone through some major changes this
year, both professionally -- the cancellation of "Veronica
Mars" (sniff) and her new gig on "Heroes"
-- and personally. The actress reveals to People that she's back on the market
after breaking up with her live-in producer-boyfriend, Kevin Mann, whom she
began seeing in 2003. "Dating is scary," admits Kristen, before gamely offering
a glass half-full assessment of her solo situation. "When you are single, you've
got to be accountable. You wake up in the morning and go to bed at night
thinking about who you really are. It's good. But dating is scary." She adds to
OK!, "I'm taking single life moment by moment. It's uncomfortable for me because
I haven't been single in a long time. I'm a homebody. I'm a Blockbuster girl at
heart."
In related news, Kristen joins the chorus of "Heroes" co-stars who deny
there's any hanky-panky going on between Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia, despite their recent quality time together. "They're just great
friends," she insists to OK!. "They're not dating."
