Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon weren't kidding when they
recently described themselves as "eternally 12 years old."
On Tuesday night, the newlyweds celebrated their surprising April 30 nuptials by turning Six Flags
Magic Mountain -- which has one flag for each week of their head-spinning
courtship -- into their personal playground.
People says the apparently deep-pocketed Cannon, 27, covertly rented out the
Valencia, Calif., amusement park (a move that may have set him back six figures)
as a grand gesture to wow his missus, 39.
The impulsive, diamond-encrusted pair, who incited a paparazzi riot
Monday evening as they exited a Los Angeles hot spot, turned up for the informal
wedding party in a Rolls-Royce around 8 p.m., according to TMZ.com.
Hey, big spender: Nick reportedly spent $2.5
million on Mariah's 17-carat pink sparkler and forked over six figures for
their Six Flags festivities. |
"This is wonderful," Mariah enthused as she walked into the park (per
People). "The best surprise ever!"
About 100 people received an invite to the festivities, quite a crowd
compared to the half-dozen pals who witnessed their seaside Bahamian vow-swap.
"Entertainment Tonight" conveniently scored a golden ticket (Cannon is
buddies with correspondent Kevin Frazier) and reports the park was festooned
with purple and pink balloons (Carey's signature hues) and signs emblazoned with
the not-at-all cheesy sentiment, "Nick and Mariah: A Love Story."
"They were so affectionate," a guest tells People. "It was like watching two
teenagers in love."
"ET" snapped the pair holding hands -- their rock-covered digits prominently
displayed -- as they rode the roller coaster, an image that may eventually serve
as an apt metaphor for a marriage many expect to be filled with very high highs
and very low lows.
"When they got off the ride, Mariah wanted gum so Nick unwrapped a piece and
fed it to her," an onlooker recounts to People. "He is head over heels."
And Mimi is just as high-maintenance as ever. After the ride, her minions
quickly moved in to smooth her tresses and touch up her makeup.
OK! believes the fun-filled shindig was inspired by Ellen DeGeneres, who invited Mr. and Mrs. Cannon to
her carnival-themed belated 50th birthday bash in Los Angeles last weekend.
The soiree was a big topic of conversation when the blushing,
cleavage-flashing bride joined Ellen on her talk show Tuesday.
In between showering the sneaker-loving host with fuzzy, high-heeled slippers
and satiny lingerie, Carey kvelled about her overconfident husband's anniversary
plans.
"Instead of trying to be like, 'You're invited, but, shhh! Don't tell
anybody' we're just going to have another [wedding] next year," she explained.
"His plan is to have one every year."
(Incidentally, the vow renewal isn't exactly a novel idea -- Heidi Klum and Seal retie the knot annually.)
Mariah also reiterated her newfound desire to procreate, responding in the
affirmative when Ellen asked about the possibility of poopie diapers.

"I always said, if I found the right person who I felt would be on the same
page as me in terms of raising kids and having the same belief system, [we'd
have children],'" she said. "I've always had a weird thing about it because my
parents divorced when I was three and I didn't have many examples of what was
the 'norm.'"
But is Mariah, who recently told OK!, "It's hard to have kids in this world.
I don't think I could properly educate a child right now. Maybe in the future,
but actually I haven't thought about it. For now I enjoy my dog Jack's company,"
already looking to stock up on haute couture onesies and baby-sized Louboutin
stilettos?
The New York Daily News says one of the chart-topper's assistants contacted
L.A.'s go-to baby boutique Petit Tresor to discuss ideas for a nursery.
A spy says the underling asked for fabric samples and a design concept
incorporating -- no, not rainbows -- butterflies, Mariah's favorite insect
(she's not only inked a butterfly tattoo on her lower back with "Mrs. Cannon"
written down the middle, but the Six Flags fete also had lepidopteran touches throughout, including cupcakes
topped with hand-painted butterflies).
Her aide also reportedly requested that the chichi store close down for a
private meeting the next time she's in town.
But Carey's manager, Benny Medina, pooh-poohs to the paper that she's not in
the family way.
