Renée Zellweger has been a little bit country courtesy of
her blink-and-you'll-miss-it marriage to Kenny Chesney. And thanks to former flame Jack White of the White Stripes, she's been a little bit
rock 'n' roll. But is she moving to the top of the musical food chain with
some iconic pop?
So says London's Mail on Sunday, which claims the twiggy Oscar winner
recently enjoyed an "intimate candlelit dinner" with Paul McCartney, who was spied chatting her up at an Aug. 25 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert.
Renée, 38, reportedly arrived first at the swank and sophisticated American
Hotel eatery in the Hamptons and settled into a table close to the fireplace.
McCartney, 65, turned up a short time later (the Daily Mirror says he
gave a Beatles fan a thrill by stopping to ask for directions to the
restaurant), and the age-mismatched pair purportedly welcomed each other with "a
tender hug."
According to the Mail, they "talked quietly" for a couple of hours (no word
on whether rangy Renée downed any calorie-crammed substances) before calling it
a night with another embrace.
"It's an extremely romantic place to meet for dinner. The dining rooms are
very dimly lit, mostly with candlelight," a spy illuminates to the paper. "Sir
Paul and Renée left separately -- but they looked like they were enjoying
themselves."
McCartney, whose initial tête-à-tête with Zellweger allegedly earned him the
stink eye from Christie Brinkley (they'd reportedly hung out a few days
before), has been summering in the Hamptons with 3-year-old daughter Beatrice
(estranged wife Heather Mills has also been staying in the area).
Renée's rep did not respond to our request for comment on the rumors of a
romantic rendezvous with Paul.
Meanwhile, McCartney and Zellweger were once again in proximity to each other
on Saturday night, when they attended a memorable Hamptons bash tossed by Jon Bon Jovi, reports the New York Daily News.
The party attracted plenty of big names, including Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Howard Stern and Matt Lauer.
The paper says an impromptu jam session with Bon Jovi, McCartney, Joel,
Buffett and Waters (alas, Springsteen made an early exit) had the crowd on its
feet and boogying down.
"Billy was wailing on the keyboards," recounts an eyewitness. "They performed
for a good hour of rock classics. Nobody could believe it. Howard Stern was
really rocking out."
Renee was reportedly "front and center" during the performance, and she and
Paul appeared "very cozy" during the shindig.
"They chatted through much of the evening," a spy tells the News, "and shared
one of the outdoor day beds where people lounged on the lawn after dinner."
