It hasn't been the best week for Meg Ryan. Not only is her new movie "In the Cut" garnering mixed reviews (Entertainment Weekly calls her performance "freeze-dried") but the actress is, too. Crowds waiting patiently outside the pic's London premiere Wednesday night were reportedly less than thrilled when Ryan, wearing a form-fitting Azzedine Alaia dress, bypassed the masses and made a beeline for the theater.

The former Mrs. Dennis Quaid, who gets nekkid in the Jane Campion-directed drama (hey, it's for the good of narrative flow), appeared outside a few minutes later, but once again beat a hasty retreat, eliciting boos from the no-longer-star-struck crowd. Perhaps Meg needs to take a few lessons from Tom Cruise, who has been known to jump right into the throng -- signing autographs, shaking hands, and occasionally making phone calls to fans' shocked friends.
Britney Sued
A man labeled "abnormally obsessed"
with Britney Spears and who was ordered by a court on Oct. 7 to
stay at least 300 yards away from her for three years has now sued the pop
starlet for "extreme emotional distress." Masahiko Shizawa, a 43-year-old
Japanese businessman, claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal
court that Brit's security guards confronted him on a street, waved a gun, and
told him to leave the area, reports Reuters. Shizawa is seeking unspecified
damages. And in news that should add to Shizawa's "extreme emotional distress,"
early word from MTV on Britney's new album "Me Against the Music" (it hits
stores Nov. 18) is that it's "sex, sex, and more sex." A sample lyric: "I don't
want to be a tease/ Would you undo my zipper please?"
Cam Gets Justin's Gram's Approval
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake answered "sometimes" when he was asked by an
8-year-old whether he and Britney are still friends, says Us, which also reports
that the former 'N Sync-er recently took new love Cameron Diaz home to Tennessee to meet his maternal
grandparents. "I think Cameron's as sweet as can be," pronounces grandma, who
fed the size 0 "Charlie's Angels" beauty a lunch of broccoli rice casserole,
chicken and potatoes, peach cobbler, and other fattening goodies. And Cameron's
isn't just lucky in love these days. Liz Smith claims the actress, who pockets
around $20 million a movie, went into a convenience store and bought a $2
California lottery ticket -- and won $5,000.
Courtney's 'Little Crises'
The battle over Courtney Love's daughter Frances Bean Cobain is turning
violent. The New York Daily News reports that the volatile rocker-cum-actress
got into a scuffle with her mother-in-law, Wendy O'Connor, following a hearing
Tuesday in Los Angeles Juvenile Court. "Wendy went nuts," Love rants to the
paper. "She shoved me, and I slapped her like a 4-year-old, though I've never
slapped a 4-year-old."
The News says the duo remained on good terms following Kurt Cobain's suicide in 1994, but after Love's arrest on Oct. 2 for being under the influence of a controlled substance the relationship started to unravel. Emotions were likely heightened due to the court appearance, in which a judge told Love to vacate her Beverly Hills mansion so that 11-year-old Frances could move back in with her nanny. The child will be monitored by Love's stepfather, Frank Rodriguez, and an aunt. Love is allowed frequent visits.
Frances is not exactly in the dark about her mother's erratic behavior. People magazine reports that she was with Courtney the night she overdosed, making her green tea as they waited -- along with the nanny -- for an ambulance to arrive. "That's the only time my daughter has ever, ever, ever pitched in on one of my little crises," Love explains to the mag. "I made it fun. I said it was going to be gross and I was going to have to make myself throw up, but it was going to be OK."
Ben Gets Dumped By Disney
The curse of "Gigli" strikes again. A month before filming was slated to
begin on the Ben Affleck comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," a nervous
Disney has pulled the plug. The film was set to star the overexposed Oscar
winner as a confirmed bachelor who's visited by visions of former loves at his
younger brother's wedding (and no, Gwyneth wasn't co-starring). No word on why Disney got cold
feet, although the Hollywood Reporter says that the film's large budget was a
concern, as was "Affleck's tarnished image. The star has taken a beating in the
tabloids and at the box office with the failure of his most recent film,
'Gigli.'" Don't cry for Ben, though. He signed a pay-or-play deal, which means
the Mouse House will have to cough up his paycheck unless another studio steps
in.
Demi's Denial
And finally, Demi Moore is denying reports that she and Ashton Kutcher are planning to walk down the aisle. The
resurrected star called in to Rick Dees' radio show (yes, folks, the man who
immortalized "Disco Duck") to refute the nuptial rumors, insisting, "I have not
been proposed to and I'm not getting married," though she added, "I'm not saying
it's not possible."
And Ashton positively gushes about his amour
in the new issue of TV Guide: "She's everything to me. Funny, sweet, she's
anything she wants to be." He also says that he loves to play stand-in dad
to Demi's three kids with Bruce Willis, Rumer, 15, Scout, 12, and Tallulah, 9. "Being a
part of molding anyone's life is an incredible thing," says the "Dude, Where's My Car?" star, who drives the kids to school and
soccer practice and has turned up for parent-teacher
conferences.
