William Petersen has left the TV series, but his Gil Grissom lives on through DVD sets and now the Blu-ray debut of the original "CSI." He's a bit sanctimonious as he preaches the gospel of science and turns cases into graduate school field trips for his junior agents, the better to give his running commentary. It's a little obvious at times (and more apparent in marathon viewing) but it set the style of investigative procedural that now defines American crime TV. All 23 first-season episodes on five discs in a fat case with hinged trays (the mechanism is clever but fragile; my set arrived broken and the trays spilling out of the case), plus commentary on the pilot, two featurettes and deleted scenes/outtakes among the supplements.
