South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend at his home. The woman, named locally as model Reeva Steenkamp, died after being shot in the head and arm at the sprinter's property in Pretoria, South Africa, in the early hours of Thursday (14Feb13). Local reports suggest the track star mistook her for a burglar after she let herself into the property to surprise him on Valentine's Day (14Feb13). Pistorius was taken into custody for questioning. The 26-year-old athlete, dubbed the Blade Runner because he sprints using carbon fibre prosthetic blades, became the first double leg amputee to participate in the Olympic Games. Pistorius carried the South African flag at the Paralympics opening ceremony last summer (Aug12), and has won six Paralympic gold medals including two at the London Games. He is due to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.
