I was excited to see this re-emergence of the character on film and introduce the benign cuteness and humor to my kids. I had previous success introducing the 3 Stooges to my 8 year old, and thought he would enjoy Mr. Bean as well.
Although this was definitely a G-rated pleasure, it fell a little flat in the childish hilarity department. French language and the use of subtitles can be a little over the top for children. Overall, the kids enjoyed it, but they clearly indicated "it wasn't one of their favorites." I've since gone to the library and checked out his TV series and there are times the kids can't catch their breath.
I was also disappointed to see that some scenes in the previews (trailer) are NOT in the film. I think it is a bit misleading and borderline false advertising. Two in particular are after he spills coffee on the laptop, the preview shows him licking it off; not in the film. Another preview shows him getting his tie caught in a change or vending machine; not in the film.
Ultimately, an enjoyable experience for fans, but not worth the theater price tag. Was this review helpful? It was a marked improvement over the first installment, as most sequels in the Marvel universe are. Typically, first installments suffer from character development and scene setting. By the time conflict arrises to be defeated, the movie is nearly over. I enjoyed this one! I was just as entertained as I was during Spider-Man 3. Face it, there are no oscar nominations expected with these films. Enjoy them for the entertainment value and maybe to relive the fondness for comic books you had as a youth. I did.
P.S. And to respond to 'Texpack'...Stan Lee isn't dead. He's 84 years old; alive and well. Was this review helpful? A must see for all X-Men fans. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-3 of 3 Per Page |
