Posted: 9/10/2008A review of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia by HMike0
This is a strange show in that the jokes and gags manage to be both low brow and high brow in the same package. It is smartly written, often completely irreverent and politically incorrect, but consistantly laugh-out-loud funny. The actors have their characters locked and it is fast-paced. my only concern is how long it can run before becoming stale. Hopefully a long time. In other words, I hope these losers don't turn their lives around for a long time...

Posted: 8/17/2004A review of Arrested Development [TV Series] by mchartz1
The characters, acting, writing, and well, whatever else is involved with making a good comedy, are all smart, sharp, and witty.

Therefore, it will probably get canncelled after this season. No one gets voted off anything or eats head lice. Women and men don't fight for the affection of the "one true love" they just met on national television. The jokes aren't always visual and/or sophomoric. So, enjoy this great show while you can, America, because it is probably doomed.

Posted: 7/16/2004A review of King Arthur by mchartz1
Obviously, this is just my opinion. This movie brings a fresh look at the possible legend of King Arthur. It does away with the magic and love triangle, and tries to hold a bit more true to the potential truth of who King A might have been.

However, their is still some places you will have to use your imagination because it is so inplausible.

If you really like King Arthur and are open to another interpetation, you should have some moderate fun. If you want knights in shining armor and a lady in a lake, go rent one of the many other films.

I thought it was an interesting movie, with some obviously valuable and almost inarguable points. However, it slowed at the end for me when it became more "war is hell" and look what you've done pieces.

Moore definitely made no effort to give both sides but, frankly, there are plenty of sources out there for right-wingers to get their juice.

I am not surprised some people are outraged by this film; I am very surprised more people are outraged by the conduct captured in it.

I found this movie to be very well done. It was visually appealing and the stories were interesting, although offbeat.

I'm not completely sure how anyone could find it walk-out-of-the-theatre boring, but I cansee how it would not appeal to anyone looking for car chases or stereotypical storylines.

Posted: 2/2/2004A review of Starsky & Hutch by mchartz1
This was the best movie ever. Or was it the worst? I'm not completely sure of my feelings because it hasn't even been released yet but I thought I would tell everyone how good or bad it will be.

Trouble is, I can't decide. Sure, I've liked both lead actors in some other stuff, but I have also hated them. They might be perfect for these parts, if they aren't totally wrong.

So, in closing, I give the movie one thumb up and one thumb down. For now. At least until I actually see it.

I haven't seen it. No one has. But, I hate it anyway. I hate everything and everyone.

Posted: 9/26/2003A review of Finding Nemo by mchartz1
Oh sure, I know what you're thinking. Nemo's mom get's whacked right off the bat by the baraccuda. So what? We don't even get to see it.

When I take my kids to see a film, I expect there to be at least three or four times the violence is both graphic and gratuitous. I mean, a shark that won't even eat another fish? Fish are our friends? Please. That is so fake. What kind of lesson is that teaching our children? They need to know sharks are not our friends - the kind in the ocean or on land.

Mostly I enjoyed this movie. I don't actually have any kids but I'm sure if I did they would have enjoyed it, too. Be prepared, though, watching this film gave me a serious hankering for an All-You-Can-Eat seafood buffet. I guess it is true, fish are our friends. Our delicious friends.

Posted: 9/26/2003A review of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by mchartz1
Barely into the movie I began to smell something permiating the theater. It was the unmistakable scent of fear. No, not that this movie was so intensely dramatic that a grown man was left shivering with fright. Instead, it was that a grown man was left feeling violated, at least his wallet did.

I paid only a dollar to see this and I still felt ripped off. I am surprised so many reviewers here loved this flick. For me, and I won't ruin anything, I felt Connery got off easy.

If you do decide to rent this movie, please, leave your intelligence in another room when you pop it in. You risk bruising it if it is intact and besides, you won't have any need for it for the next couple of hours anyway.

Ask anyone who has a sense of humor what they think and you will likely hear words like, "funniest movie ever" and "the best" and "pull my finger". If they have no sense of humor they will likely say this movie #$%&ed. It has everything so I don't know what more they could want. Romance, an underdog, a villain, dooty. Come on!

Posted: 9/26/2003A review of Grosse Pointe Blank by mchartz1
If you like your humor dry and twisted, this is your movie. Excellent performances - especially good chemistry between John Cusack and Ackroyd and also with Driver.

The movie is definitely worth a rental so what are you waiting for? It's not like I can go get it and bring it to you, so get off your lazy @$$ and do it. Geez.

The acting was supurb. The movie was original. And, well, ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. As interesting as Pekar is, I never found myself caring all that much. I did think it had some exteremely cool subtleties, however.

Posted: 5/20/2003A review of A Mighty Wind by mchartz1
The Christopher Guest/ Eugene Levy mockumentary has given us classics like Waiting for Guffman and Best of Show. A Mighty Wind holds its own with both. The usual suspects make up the cast and do a superb job as always selling the subtle idiosyncracies of their characters. Although the characters are a bit more cartoonish in some cases than the more deadpan Best of Show, they are still funny, entertaining and likable. If you liked the others, including the earlier Spinal Tap, you absolutely will not walk away from this feeling ripped off.
