Diane Keaton again proves herself as one of the greatest actresses of all time and the supporting cast is excellent. There is no sloppy sentimentality in this story about her characters journey through grief. We do experience the sloppiness of reality where people are imperfect, flawed and there is the confrontation between perception and truth. This film is powerful because it is honest in showing the human response to tragedy which is raw, deep, unpredictable and heartbreaking. It also shows that life goes on and takes us along.

This is not a review of the movie but of the reason-Why? Why does Hollywood insist on attempting to remake these movies? You cannot duplicate a legend like Peter Sellers. It takes a Peter Jackson to reinterpret a classic because he himself has that unique inimitable stamp of legend.Actors and directors who do not fit that class should try to establish their own greatness by being original. You cannot shine in the shadow of genius.

I felt the provocation, the frustration, the anger...and the vindication of these women.Thats the hallmark of any great movie. It feels real.Fantastic performance by Charlize Theron.

The story has no point other than being told.In a year of actually superb films like the Constant Gardener this is a culturally superficial attempt to subvert the senses into believing that art and effective marketing are indistinct. Not true.

Posted: 2/20/2005A review of Maria Full of Grace by MissHipHotQueen
This movie takes a raw and unflinching look at the everyday reality of the drug trade. There is no excess of sentiment or graphic imagery which characterize most films on this topic. The progression of the story is natural and unforced and we are drawn into the atmosphere of desperation and danger as" Maria"' confronts and survives the choices of her life. Catalina Sandino is intense and convincing and she wisely makes no attempt to portray Maria as a tragic heroine.Definitely deserving of her Oscar nomination.

Love it !Witty, stylish and intelligent.Annette Bening flawlessly and convincingly portrays the magnificent and multi-layered "Julia".The supporting cast is absolutely brilliant and this film certainly deserved other major nominations.

Technically good directing and cinematography. That's all.The actors struggle and lack credibility because they're miscast and the film has no personal or emotive appeal. It is a waste of talent on a boring story.

Posted: 1/17/2005A review of Finding Neverland by MissHipHotQueen
'Finding Neverland' is exquisitely and delightfully beautiful. The mastery of Johnny Depp is proved yet again as he displays his astounding range of dramatic talent and depth of portrayal as he infuses the character of Barrie with sensitivity and subtle intensity. The supporting cast is magnificent and the child-actors refreshingly behave like children which is uncommon in most children's roles today. There is realism in their raw outbursts of emotion and this effectively contrasts with the supressed feelings of the adults. There are no cheap gimmicks nor slick dialogues characteristic of trite commercial films. We are also mercifully spared the overdone high-tech computerism of current cinema fare. The power of this film is the power of childhood itself-simplicity,purity and love.We are indeed transported to Neverland which is not a place of escape but that place of hope and childlike faith which is ageless and embodied in the boy who never grows up.The film is truly magical but there is no Tinkerbell as we have known her.The magic lies within the imagination and we are uplifted and challenged to "believe".
