I cannot believe it. This movie is even more engrossing and entertaining than the 2005 film which was excellent and I saw twice with 2 friends. That says a lot about a film. Tobys performance, dead on entertaining. I am liking Sandra a lot now after the Lake House and now this film. Id say her role was less involved than Keeners in the 2005 though, but maybe more integral. Daniel Craig soars in the role of the elder of the killers Perry Smith. All the supporting players cast excellently. The expanded use of the New York swans that adored Capote added an immensely amusing touch to this version, as did their star power. The dinner parties in Kansa a riot. I liked the fact that they added something about the life partner of Capote suffering throught Trumans obsessions and self absorption. Showing the relationship between Truman and Smith as more intimate makes more sense out of it as well. As the other reader said, I just saw the other film 9 months ago, but I loved it! The entire audience did I was sure.

Absolutely strange and humorous movie. Gael Garcia is such a revelation always, a major talent in todays bullpen of stars.

Posted: 10/5/2006A review of The Guardian by Ashlay6
Thsi movie immediately reminded me of Perfect Storm with the wild water and boat effects. I liked the story, though it was overacted at times. The cambat and resolution between the old salty dog and the freshwater pup was played out well. I would have liked to see some more side stories of the other recruits developed. The love story was fairly lame, Id say too. Ashton did a break out role here, nailing his cocky and brusk character, annoying you can still hear a trace of the squeaky 70s Show character coming through, work on that. AND I was recently wondering why they hardly ever cast her ... Sela Ward is such a delightful and disciplined actress, good selection. I would like to see her snag an Oscar nominated role one day. Guardian was an interesting look at CG training and life.

Isnt it rather irresponsible to portray this kind of behaviour as self-explorational fun. Its not the 60s anymore in case no one cared to ask.

It was kind of off-putting the different scenarios laid out about the demise of Superman. Was the movie having any real point of view, was one put forth over the others? The acting is adequate and Diane L. is a stand out, but it is not an uplifting story so dont expect one The connivng mother, the insecure mistresses, the frustrated movie star, the notorious bosses, the grimy detective, the bratty kid. Whoa. A-plus for image making though.

If they had skipped the potty humor it wouldnt have mattered. Tacky, unimaginative. I originally thought it was sorta miscast except for the daughter who was a riot! If it didnt have SEVERAL LOL out and out belly busters, I would have rated it a one or two though.

Good for a few laughs. Not hilarious, but has some clever enough scenes. The premise was not what I thought from the trailer. I thought it was gonna be about an actual adult-acting baby, not a baby impersonator.

The illusions are terrific if you suspend yourself into the film. Really liked that part of the film. Norton and Giamatti are excellent and engaging as utter foes that eventually become tenuous allies. The plot, on the other hand, has some holes. So, suspend a little more reality and enjoy.

4 stars because its an interesting territory. The performances were indeed led by Ms. Swank, her usual smashing performance. It is a relationship film of people drawn together by the title crime more than a film about the crime itself. Quite gory at times, not for the faint of heart. It is long and there are slow stretches, a problem, but overall very good if you care for these types of stories.

We are fans and went because Sarah Jesica Parker was in this movie and we were excited about seeing it from the trilers. However the premise is completely contrived and real people just dont act this way. Some of the acting was fairly average. The laughs that could have been never materialized and we went home a little disappointed. Hardcore romantic comdey people might take to it though.

Posted: 3/7/2006A review of Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont by Ashlay6
This movie was so moving. A staid Joan Plowright moves into a seniors apartment hotel in London for a while, alone and a bit pensive. Her Londoner grandson never does come to visit but quite by accident she comes into the company of a very freespirited young man who adores her. And a very hot one at that! This causes quite a stir among the residents. And it causes quite a few changes in both Mrs Paltry as she takes a mentoring role and in her new grandson. Engaging from start to finish and full of humor and pathos, this film is not afraid to show life as it really is - and how it can be. Wonderful.

Posted: 3/7/2006A review of Crash by Ashlay6
This film certainly has some explosive scenes and clever intertwining of race relationships. Heavy handed at times, it nonetheless does resonate with a few memorable scenes. Crash made quite a splash in the summertime, then sort of faded from memory at award time, a not uncommon phenom. Apparently a push went on to get voters to see it. It does seem strange that something that is best as a movie received no acting awards or even nominations, did it? Tandi Newton was perhaps the most memorable part, but where was she at awards time, I read she got something in England. It was cool to watch M Dillon, B Frasier, and Bollack play against type.

Posted: 3/4/2006A review of The Family Stone by Ashlay6
What a funny and entertaining holiday movie. Im so glad I got to see it before it went dvd. Sarah Parker rules this film with a tour de force as a chilly and bumbling overly conservative potential newcomer to the (supposedly) laid-back Family Stone. To see her character being broken down and reinvented is a tribute to Ms Parkers charm and natural acting abilities. Its apparent that the fact that she was overlooked for major award consideration is a shame. Every other cast member is so talented and a major Hollywood player. D Keaton plays an ironic domineering queen bee to the hippy clan who is as hardheaded and unbending as they come, one who is forced to change her ways in order to keep the hive structure together. Rachel McAdams draws on her Mean Girls personna, perfectly nasty. Luke Wilson, in from San Francisco, is hunky and irresistable as usual as the quirky brother character. Whos heart wouldnt he melt... oops did I say too much? If you like romanctic comedies and slapstick such as Meet the Parents, you should love The Family Stone.

Posted: 3/4/2006A review of Match Point by Ashlay6
Match Point was a real surprise. A story that is a bit off. Very heavy on the drama and the intigue. The cast was terrific. This story of temptation, infideity, guilt, greed and fear gone awry is fascinating. The fates of the characters are perfectly summed up by the opening tennis ball scene. The main character Rhys is an unwitting social climber. Scarlett is undeniably attractive and adorable as the conflicted other-woman, and as one of the characters says near the end - of course we hardly blame him. The other parts are well cast. The alchy mom the best, being the typical overbearing parent to the point of hilarity. At first I thought this movie might be slow, but the metaphors used were intriguing and I was quickly drawn in. 2 hous flew by.

Posted: 2/27/2006A review of Mrs. Henderson Presents by Ashlay6
This wartime story about a widow that opens a theater to entertain the boys with her hubbys money... well it is amazingly entertaining. Dame Judi should get award recognition for her fabulous portrayal of a lady reinvigorated, even succumbing to teenage emotions. You will love this film if you love good drama and comedy and are not too prudish. Very classy in the way the stage shows are handled. You care about these characters. Great film.
