Playing one his greatest roles, Boris Karloff doesn't have to utter a word to make your hair stand on end. Pieced together from dead bodies and accidently given the brain of a madman, Dr. Henry Frankenstein harnesses the power of electricity to bring his creature to life. After the monster mistakenly drowns a local village girl, the hunt to destroy him spans the countryside. If you're a fan of classic horror, you must see this movie. Its sequel, The Bride of Frankenstein, is considered by many to be superior to the original. Was this review helpful? Tobey Maguire makes a perfect Peter Parker, and Kirsten Dunst does a magnificent job as well playing his love interest Mary Jane. Laden with action and special effects, the movie barely slows down enough to let you catch your breath. Fans of the comic book character won't be disappointed. It is a movie not to be missed. He has a feel for what brings out the suspense in a film. When mysterious crop circles appear in farmer Graham Hess's(Mel Gibson) cornfield, as well as others across the world, the questions begin to mount as to what their cause is. Hess, a widow, lives on his farm with his brother, son and daughter.(Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin, Abigail Breslin) As he and his family try to unravel the clues, finally discovering what's behind the signs, Hess's own personal convictions about his faith come into play. I won't give away any secrets about the movie, but will say you'll have a good time watching it. Was this review helpful? The story of a little creature created on another planet by an alien scientist. After escaping from his home planet, he lands on earth only to be adopted by a cute little Hawaiian girl who believes him to be a dog. Not hitting it off at the start, the two soon form a bond that makes this movie quite endearing. With a perfect mixture of humor and values it will remain a fixture in the Disney library. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful This is the movie that made Bela Lugosi the legend that he is, and unfortunately stereo-typed him for the rest of his life. While lacking any real soundtrack or film direction, this movie still has the ability to entrance the viewer with its eerie sets as well as Lugosi's overwelming presense. It's not really scary, but it is by definition a classic horror movie. Was this review helpful? Lon Chaney Jr. does a superb job playing Larry Talbot, a man who upon killing a werewolf is bitten and cursed to become a wolf when the moon is full. After convincing himself as to what is happening, he finds it difficult persuading his friends and family of the curse that hangs over his head. With outstanding make-up effects from Universal Studio wiz Jack Pierce, The Wolf Man delivers on all levels. Will Larry Talbot free himself from the bonds of the wolf? Watch for yourself and find out. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 3 users found this helpful The Ring reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. While not quite in the same league, the direction is definitely similar. Much like fellow director M. Night Shaymalan, Gore Verbinski likes to use clever camera angles to keep his audience in suspense. The Ring does what many of todays horror movies cannot do. It scares you without throwing a gallon of blood onto the screen every five minutes. That in itself should be commended. Go watch and have a good time. Was this review helpful? With enough fantasy to keep you in suspense and enough emotion to fill your eyes with tears, this movie will forever remain a classic with the likes of The Wizard of Oz. A definite must own movie for any movie fan. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 4/2/2003A review of Mission: Impossible II by robbeck67 Secret agent Ethan Hunt is at it again. This time he must stop a madman who wants to set a plague free on the world, only to profit from the sale of the antidote later. John Woo knows how to direct an action film. His use of slow motion camera work and big budget special effects make for a roller coaster ride throughout the film. Tom Cruise is cool as a cucumber playing IMF agent Hunt. And while many of the stunts are over the top, they're all in good fun and make for a grand old time. See it, and hang on to your safety bars. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 4/2/2003A review of Death to Smoochy by robbeck67 I suppose adults whose school-age children adore the likes of Barney have imagined at times putting a hit on the big purple dinosaur. Especially after the 100th viewing. That's exactly what Robin William's charcter Rainbow Randolph plans to do. But his foe is a purple rhino named Smoochy, played by Edward Norton. After losing his TV show slot to Smoochy, Randolph puts a price on his head. Norton does an excellent job playing the naive nice guy who's out to conquer the world of childrens TV, all the while foregoing corporate profits and greed. The movie has some really good laugh out loud secenes and should not be missed. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-10 of 10 Per Page |
