Posted: 11/4/2007A review of American Gangster by LiftedRothi
I always try to look for movies, where a person single handedly builts an empire from scratch. The only problem is, I never find them. American gangster, 'tells' the stories, but never 'shows' the story. I mean how can you put together a whole life of work in 2 hours? For that you have to lose a lot of details, and by doing that we give up the life of the story. Maybe more could have been done about 'his empire' and 'his arrest'. Denzel Washington and Crowe did their best as always.

Ok I like Rani mukharjee. She is a beautiful actress. But She has to stop signing up on this kind of story. To Rani, you got to understand one thing. You do one movie to make yourself the star, and thats it. After that you dont have to take movies, if they don't meet your expectations. I realllly, strongly, blindly think Abhishek bacchan should leave the industry. I mean we have given him his fair share of Bollywood. He got "the girl", fans, and some top movies. But now please stop Abhishek! For the sake of god, you dont know how to act. Just because everyone knows your name, doesn't mean what you do is great! You can take a medical exam and become a doctor, or maybe an engineer! But not actor, please man!!! So I expected 'Laaga chunari mein daag' to be a bad movie, and that's what I got. Its just sad that people will spend millions to make this kind of movies. They should spend some about 5% of their budget to help the people of Darfur.

So, I just saw this movie the other night. To tell you the truth, I WAS expecting to see some good acting in this movie. And I got that. I wasn't sure about the story because I didn't watch the trailer. Berry and Del toro did their job, I personally am a fan of Del toro. I know he doesn't let anyone touch his hair, but still there were times when I just wanted to force a brush on his hair. The sad widow and a recovering addict were the strongest characters. If I had the chance I would have shed more light on only one character. There wasn't anything great about the story, but with the help of the actors it became good. In 2007 I have seen a lot of movies, but it has to be one the better ones.....much better than those two tarantino movies.
