In a time where mainstream rock rules, Reznor still delivers a compelling, but aggressive, album that is nowhere near like other albums released in 2005. I needn't go into the songs, you should know by now that everything that Reznor does is amazing. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful I know some people don't like Load too much, but I've always enjoyed it. Some of the more aggressive tracks sound like older Metallica, while there's enough different stuff on it to keep it interesting. I'm not a huge fan of the 8+ minute songs...but that's just me. 'King Nothing' is the song that first attracted me to the album, but I discovered 80% of the other songs are gems, too. While there are a few weak tracks, there's enough good ones to make it good...even to the non-Metallica listener. Was this review helpful? I saw the cd at a store for $9 and decided to buy...and I must say I'm quite happily surprised. I thought the album was good throughout. Though I can't compare it to their first album, alone Duality is very good. I may have to check out the other album, too since it's supposed to be better. Coming from someone just getting into this band, I'd say buy it for sure if you see it sitting around somewhere. Was this review helpful? Although RtL is very similar, song by song, to Master Of Puppets, RtL has very excellent lyrics even though Metallica was very young when this album was recorded. Songs like 'Creeping Death' and 'Trapped Under Ice' shows how Metallica can differ from the more standard metal songs. 'Fade to Black' is one of the tracks that stands out more and is still making its presence known today. Metallica fan or not, Ride the Lightning should be in every rock listener's library.
