My dad, a WWII vet reminded me somewhat - they're just made tougher back then - tough as nails.
But was also SO TRUE was the "cultural differences" and learning how to enjoy a new culture under mutual respect!
LOVED THIS MOVIE! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/15/2008A review of Tropic Thunder by onlyzuul1 This was a simply BRILLIANT picture that makes total fun of Hollywierd- from the actors all the way to producers!
For those who got upset at the "challenged character" that Ben Stiller plays during the movie MISSED THE POINT TOTALLY! He was NOT making fun of "different people"...
The whole thing was SATIRE making fun of the actor himself and those around him! Did Tom Hanks play Forest Gump? Yes, but just imaging being in Holywood having to deal with all the wierdness (the people and the phonies) behind the scenes and trying to get into character, play the role in front of a camera and then deal with all the hype and criticism! THAT'S what he was making fun of!!! It was blatantly obvious during the whole picture!
Just like Rush does - showing the absurdity by being absurd!
BRAVO - Ben! BRAVO!!! Was this review helpful? I actually liked the story better.
Jackie Chan is still in top condition and at his best – he’s simply amazing.
I literally walked into the movie not knowing what to expect because I had some time to waste and was delightfully surprised it was a Jackie Chan flick – but then the whole thing literally blew me away.
The character of the boy that was crazy about Chinese fight films, but who was totally wimpy reminded me of Jonathan Brandis in “Sidekicks” except instead of Chuck Norris, this kid gets both Jackie Chan and Jet Li as his mentors.
The action was astounding – right out of a Chinese production. Never mind the choreographed moves, the speed, power and raw skill is what makes them a success.
It’s a success story where the boy finds his courage, saves the day, and gets the girl. Oh yeah, the gals in the Chinese part of the story are just as dangerous as the guys. Was this review helpful? Showing hate and prejudice, and acting with malice and attacking respectable people with the intent of ruining their careers, personal and professional lives and the lives of their families just for suggesting - with scientific evidence - that there is a chink in the armor of Darwinism or any other -ism should not be tolerated by universities, the scientific communities nor the public.
But alas, liberalism isn't about tolerance and apparently neither is the scientific community. They are both acting like the religions of old - the intolerant powerful religious and government leaders of old - trying to keep the power that they currently hold over people's minds for their 'own agenda'...
They're not about truth, respect, tolerance and especially not about the Constitution. 'Freedom of religion' doesn't mean 'Freedom from religion'. A true scientist is tolerant of other's views and can respectfully argue for or against evidence and theories, but for a Fresno John to suggest that he'd rather shut these people up and shut them down before even hearing their arguments ‘before’ watching the movie - is showing his true colors that he is exactly what this movie is all about.
From what I've seen of the trailer, it brilliantly portraits the situations that some scientists, teacher and others have had to put up with from our institutions of 'higher learning' and from the legions of mind numbed intolerant 'johns' (and 'Jane’s) that these schools and universities have produced.
What are you afraid of? Learning something? Getting in too deep? Let's not drowned in the shallow waters like the song prompts you too – instead enlighten yourself by watching the movie and make your decision then. Yes this is important enough a topic to address and learn to spot this hate and intolerance for what it is – and not fall into its trap! Was this review helpful? Hes an admitted liberal from England, but he puts the blame for what happened to flight 93 right where it belongs - the terrorists.
They conspired, they slaughtered passengers and crew and pilots, but since their flight was delayed an extra 30 minutes before taking off the passengers on the flight caught wind of what happened to the twin towers by cell phone and knowing that they didnt want to let the terrorists lead them, they took charge!
Much more believable than anything Hollywood and the democrats have done to pretend that 9.11.2001 didnt happen, and that we have more to fear from global warming than our friends the terrorists
Admittedly Im surprised this movie was able to be make, but not surprised whiners that like to blame everything on Bush saying ITS TOO EARLY!. They should have a new movie about 9.11 every year. I think the film captures the best it can the real spirit of traditional Japanese lifestyle. The action, acting, and story are all excellent. The story and what is happening to each character is very heart felt and gripping! Best of all, this movie brings into the lime light to the western world the many fine actors from Japan. There are so many extremely talented people in Japan, and it’s a pity that most American’s are ignorant of them. It’s a pity because Japanese people in general know and highly regard our movie actors.

Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-6 of 6 Per Page |
