I was entralled the entire three hours. When I hear that a person is bored in a movie such as this I just believe that there weren't enough explosions and chase scenes for their liking. This is one of those movies that right after seeing it you want to stop people on the street to tell them to go see it. I am not one of those who cires in the movies easily but I cried at the end of this one. It touched me like no other movie in a long time. I wasn't the only one. It was a silent crowd that left the theater, many dabbing at their eyes. Was this review helpful? The acting was brilliant especially that of the young man playing Evan-August. This was a gripping story that kept you wanting the very best for it's characters. I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone but I left the theater smiling. Was this review helpful? So if you see the movie, enjoy the movie for what it is and not what you thought it was going to be. This is a wonderful story of overcoming adversity, a very real subject in a very real world. This may not be the entertainment you would have selected for your four or five year old but get over that and look at what the movie was trying to convey. I feel bad that any younger kids were traumaized by it but all in all it was a movie worth seeing (except by those people who are not going to see it now because the spoilers ruined it for them). What are you people thinking? Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 2/5/2007A review of The Queen by kevinsgirl_88 I have been crazy about all that is British since I have been a child. I have been to London twice in my quest to understand the British better. This movie gave me insight into both the British peoples hearts and the queens as well. When putting HRH down we forget that being the monarch is all Elizabeth has ever known. She became queen at a very early age and devoted all of her long life to serving the British Commonwealth and its people. Sure, she has enjoyed a life of luxury but also one of duty the extent of which we could never understand. This movie portrayed a women caught up in a situation she could not understand and her sense of what was appropriate in such unusual circumstances was based on what it always was...duty and what was best for her country. While I know that Elizabeth had difficulty understanding Diana and dealing with the unrest that resulted, I believe that her motivation for her behavior the week following Dianas death was not out of bitterness but what truly was best for the two princes and the country as a whole. I believe the most touching scene of all was when she was given flowers by the young girl in the crowd as the queen looked over the flowers and gifts left for Diana by the people. She was expecting the disdain of the crowd but recieved their love instead. I see her as a woman trying to chance with the times but having immense difficulty doing so. Was this review helpful? It never ceases to amaze me at how theaters fill up with people willing to pay good money to see car crash after car crash and explosion after explosion. It is mind-numbingly boring to me. Apocplyto was dubbed action but like no other action movie you will ever see. You will be on the edge of your seat the whole movie and certainly the last hour. You will learn very early in the movie to truly care about what happens to the young hunter, Jaguar Paw and it is this that pulls you into the movie.
This is a profund story of what happens to a civilization when it crosses the line of humanity and becomes decadent. For those Mayan scholors, I dont proclain to be an expert, but I can see that much thought was given to accuracy and realism. The final scenes pull it all together and give the viewer an idea of the big picture.
This is a very bloody, violent movie and I do not recommend it for the young or easily upset by this sort of thing. Was this review helpful? Both Reese and Joaquin deserve an Oscar for their roles. I was never a Johnny Cash fan especially and this is not the reason I went to the movie. I went because I had heard a lot of good about it. I was not disappointed. It showed how I can only imagine it was. I do know enough about he early music business to say that they got that part right on. Great, great movie with a good story line and great actors, what more can you want? Was this review helpful? There are sites where those of you that want to bicker about the appropriateness of the war can go and duke it out. Was this review helpful? I am glad that I did! Ms Foster played her usually gutsy woman in this but it was not a predictable movie. The shots inside the plane were sometimes surreal and added much to the movie. I don't want to include any spoilers in this so I will just say...go see it! For those of you that do listen to critics, Roger and Ebert gave it two thumbs up! Was this review helpful? My friend and I stayed 40 minutes or so and kept asking each other, "Are you getting this?" Neither one of us were so we just left. There was no plot, just scene after stupid scene put together with no connection whatsoever. I did like the set decoration and the moodiness that caught that age in history well. I understand that fairy tales and most nursery rhymes were satires on what was happening in the world at the time, the poverty, disease and despair. The movie did pick up on that but I can't help but believe that it was an accident. Was this review helpful? It wasn't similar to the first one but then it didn't need to be. It was an interesting study of what is really going on with a man with a commintment problem. Alfie's life was not all fun and games and Jude Law did an excellent job with that role. Now I must say that I will watch just about anything with Jude Law in it, but this movie stood by itself as one worth seeing. Was this review helpful? It was better than most, however, from start to finish you were able to bond with both man and horse and really, really wanted them to win. The trials they came through and the endurance of the horse was amazing. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it even more amazing. Good movie, lots of action and true heroes. Night <br>Shamalyan does and this movie was no exception. Anyone who says they had it figured out in the first few minutes is lying. I love being blown away at the end of a movie and The Village certainly did (blow me away). It was perfectly cast especially the casting of Bryce Dallas Howard. She was great! I highly recommend this movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 5/22/2004A review of Troy by kevinsgirl_88 What can I say? Brad Pitt in a gladiator outfit and if you get bored with that, there is Orlando Bloom. Kidding aside, it was an awesome movie. A movie this long had better be good and it kept my interest. If it strayed a little from The Iliad, oh well, this is Hollywood. The acting stood out and the casting was perfect. BP made a wonderful Achilles. The cinematography was outstanding. I highly recommend this movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 5/4/2004A review of Godsend by kevinsgirl_88 This was not an all bad movie as some suggest, but leaves one walking out of the theater saying, "Huh?" It left too many loose ends for my taste. Like what about the families they had to leave behind and never have contact with again? No mention of them at all, a highly unlikely scenario in itself. The whole "Zachary/Adam thing" is a little iffy also. So what is really happening? Did the good doctor combine the DNA's or...???? Maybe I just missed that part. Personally I like a nice little tidy package of a movie where I can concentrate on the plot, characters, cinematography, etc. without wondering about the parts that are unclear. Maybe I am asking too much but we have all seen movies that have it all so it is doable. Robert DeNiro deserves better than this but then no one twisted his arm to do this I am sure. To the movie's credit it did have Bobby DeNiro and had a few scary scenes, but there are a lot of better movies out there right now. Go see one of them and leave this one for that raining Saturday night when you want to watch videos. Was this review helpful? Sign In |
