It is so original that there is nothing that you could compare it to to describe it. I had to keep telling myself it was just a movie... The realism...It makes the Lord of the Rings character Gollum seem like claymation! This is produced by Peter Jackson academy award winning director of Rings so the best CGI effects are here. The story does not tie up all neatly and the moral lessons (an apartheid allegory) are so viseral in their execution tht this movie will stay with me for a long time. What an incredible actor playing the lead role...SCi FI movie or not I see Academy recognition for his work! Prepare to be blown away...you have never seen anything like this. Was this a comedy or a "dramedy"?? It has a great premise but the writers and director really went overboard on the crudest, raunchiest sutff they could think of. This could have been slap stick heaven but you have the worst writing...one minute very serious (a character ius shot in a chapel, one minute sort of funny (a totally gratuitous chicken runs around the hotel suite) and mostly stupid and unfunny. Male frontal nudity by a strange gay Asian character who is one minute menecing and the next trying to be funny.., profanity like you haven't heard in a long time, sexual acts you do not want to even begin to see or think about. This was a gross and stupid movie and I would not waste my money on it. Was this review helpful? Rachel Weisz is sorely missed as Evy but I can understand why she passed on the role after winning an Academy Award for real acting. She no longer needs this kind of movie for her career. Too bad sequels are usually not very good... Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 6/30/2008A review of WALL•E by mikeymoo50 Poor choices by Pixar and Disney. The preachiness of the environmental message, the demise of the world because of consumerism... tell me who is one of t he the greatest sellers of all time of of consumer goods to the masses - DISNEY!!! Why can't a movie just be entertaining...that is why we spend our very hard earned money to go to the movies...to escape the real world! Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 10 users found this helpful When the actors in a movie act like THEY think they are funny you are in trouble... Poor excuse for a movie. Save your very hard earned money and get good movies through the mail... Was this review helpful? Please do not bother going to see this movie. Was this review helpful? Elizabeth was 53 years old when the events in this movie took place! She did not go charging into battle or still have tender moments with Sir Walter Raleigh. Cate Blanchett is an actor of remarkable ability and presence but she can only do what the script says...blame the writers and the director and the producer for this inferior peice of cimematic bombast. Read Michael Medved.com for his take on this...he is encyclopedic in his historical knowledge and lambasts this movie. It's too bad movies like this are made. The real history was no less absorbing so why is the movie FICTIONAL...they should just call this "fictional history" like a romance novel...not reality. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The History Channel had an excellent two hour presentation last Thursday night with the true story of the 300 Spartans. This will be repeated several times I am sure. Understanding the historical background of the Greek city States (Athenian, Spartan, and others), the Persian empire (which was the largest empire the world had seen up to that time) and the battles that had gone on between these areas, gives you the proper background to understand and appreciate the last stand taken by these Spartans warriors. The Spartans were entire society revolved around war and the training of their young boys. Taken from their mothers at the age of 7 they were trained in the harshest of survival of the fittest regimens until they either made it or died trying. The movie version is just that...a movie...do not look for historical accurancy or truth. Indeed, the naval battle was a great part of this war and it is glossed over. I do not understand why Hollywood cannot follow the script of the real history...it is amazing and riveting! Look for this History Channel show and you will be enthralled. If this movie leads some young people to read real history about ancient times it will have been worthwhile even though historically inaccurate. Was this review helpful? Its not meant to be a look at REAL cops. Its outlandish comedy these incredibly talented actors invent on the spot...imagine being that quick witted!! This is like Whose Line Is It Anyway? with crazy over the top characters. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I did not like Eragon at all. I agree with the previous reviewer opn thier observations. However, would reviewers please take the time to spell and check their spelling...the last reviewer titled the review desamation of character...the correct word is defamation...as in to defame ones character, reputation etc. Tkae the time to make your point. When will Hollywood make something worth our time and our 8.00...which is more than an hour of my pay! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 10/21/2006A review of Man of the Year by mikeymoo2 Movie goers attend a movie expecting a comedy and receive a comedy-thriller! This movie just does not work as entertainment on any level. Yes, Robin Williams the standup, does a few bits but then there is a toally unrelated and pointless side story with Christopher Walken hospitalized with emphysema who continues to smoke, and then there is a serious thriller with Laura Linney. There is a totoally unbelieavable realtionship created between Liiney and Williams to add a romantic twist. The supposed talk show host becomes a presidential candidate with the producers of a TV show as his main advisors?! This movie was a waste of all of their talents and my money and my time. My husband and I were very dissapointed...from now on we will first read the reviews. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-14 of 14 Per Page |
