Movie adaptations of books are usually poorly done, and I expected this to be the same. I had no idea that I would be so moved by it. This telling of his life really had an impact on me. The actors and characters were very well developed, and kept my interest the whole time. The really shocking thing is that this is a true story! Chris was a naive young guy who had some difficulty reconciling some of the realities of his life. This happens a lot, but most people survive it. Anyone who pays attention to wilderness accidents knows that minor mistakes in judgement are often deadly in the wilderness.
I don't care for Sean Penn, but he did a great job telling Chris' story, and allowing me to see how much Chris affected people in his short life. I am grateful to Chris' family for sharing this story, it must have been very difficult for them. I highly recommend this movie. I can understand if some people find it slow because it is a moving drama, not an action-thriller. Was this review helpful?
