The book tells a rather different story about Pelagia and Antonio's love. It's about love being timeless and enduring. In the book, it was not until Pelagia and Antonio were in their 70's that they met again. Was this review helpful? There is not a single thing in this movie that isn't excellent. People of all ages will surely love this hilarious and heartwarming movie. The ending left me with goosebumps and with the longing for a sequel! Was this review helpful? It also teaches a lesson about going for your dreams despite the odds you face. Drew Barrymore gave an outstanding performance. She was convincing, both as a hapless teener and as a driven young mom. Kudos also to James Woods, who had exuded that loving, fatherly image yet again. Adam Garcia moved me with his drama scenes and Steve Zhan's character was both comical and pathetic. If you want to be inspired, this movie's for you. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 4/19/2003A review of Patch Adams by heath_tin It leaves a mark in you somewhere, but it gets drowned easily with all the film's cliches, which i think are excusable considering the movie's theme. And also, its reminder of laughter being the best medicine is fitting and it becomes more meaningful because it is embraced by a future professional docotor. It also does good in sparing the audience of all the gore when Monica Potter's character was murdered. Otherwise, it would only spoil the movie's essence, being a light, feel-good movie which shows that trusting people is both a happy and bittersweet experience and that helping others is a priceless passion. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 4/19/2003A review of Simon Birch by heath_tin There was one flaw I noticed in this movie. Just a tiny flaw...when the bus was out of control and was heading straight into the river...there was a shot of Simon with no glasses on. Later on, there was a scene of Simon's glasses strongly jerked off his face. Anyway, that was just a tiny flaw, as I have said. All in all, Simon Birch is one movie that touches a string in you somewhere but also keeps you amused with all its funny parts. I think this movie owes its poignancy on how it has shown how true friendship is as enduring as the four seasons. It makes us all believe and hope that God has, indeed,a plan for all of us and that everything happens and everyone comes for a reason. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 4/20/2003A review of The Green Mile by heath_tin The movie is as moving as the book. I think that the Green Mile is Stephen King's best book ever and it seems like Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, and the rest of the cast were born to do the roles. They just fit them perfectly! Your heart would just go for Duncan's character John Coffey, whose gift has become the sin he has been accused of. This movie will surely keep your tearducts busy. It leaves its audience with a poignant realization that death is a friend for those who have nothing and nobody to live for. Was this review helpful? I doubt if kids would appreciate this movie, neither would grown-ups. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 4/30/2003A review of Monster's Ball by heath_tin I truly wonder what made Halle Berry won the Academy for this movie. I just can't see the depth of her acting in this movie. She is a good actress, really, but I doubt if her performance in this movie was her best, and the best among the other nominees, for that matter. I just didn't empathize with her and an audience being able to empathize with an actor's character is the true measure of how good an acting is. The love scenes...i think the movie will do without them. They're unnecessarily long, too! And the ending...too open-ended it leaves the audience feeling duped or something. I gave this movie 2 stars, though, because of Heath Ledger. Eventhough he only had a small role, it was a meaty one and he portrayed it beautifully. Was this review helpful?
