All reviews by user Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Considering this movie was the make it or break it for all musical films to come, I would say that it done good. However, compared to musicals from it's dust, ahem, past, it stops short of comparable. The acting? Exquisite. The costumes? Brilliant. THe dancing? Phenomenal. The dimension? Circa Atari. The brilliance of the stars--Catherine, Renee and Richard at their finest--saved the inadequacy of the environment within the film. After seeing it, I could not remember one scene. Dancing numbers sure, jail bars, how could you not? But there was no Chicago in ";Chicago."; There won't be any four letter words out of my mouth about this flick, though. IT was due. Musical films have been out of the loop for far too long, and this film--with it's brand name stars doing un-brand name stunts--was just strong enough a helping hand to hopefully, please, please, please, bring more musical scripts to producers' doors. It really gave me the motivation to go to college!!! No. How about, it made me stare in awe at the huge house in which Wyatt and Gary throw the party of the century? Hell yes. Any teenage should not graduate from their teenagerdom until they've seen this flick. With more than two handfuls of quotable lines, a raging party, one of the funniest lighthearted 'racial' scenes at the ";Candybar,"; and all the hot eighties clothes that Lisa sports, you'd be a fool not too see this John Hughes classic. Be forwarned, oh ye un-weird-science-savvy cats: there are indeed, three versions of this movie. Most of you will never get to see the scene in the kitchen, pre- ";Lisa computer hijinks,"; in which the two strapping young boys proceed to microwave everything in the fridge while watching Frankenstein on a mini TV. I must add that one must see this movie, if for any reason, simply because Anthony Michael Hall's hair makes a brilliant performance. ";Crazy insane!"; Was this review helpful? This, however, is surely not one of those, but it's still a damn good early nineties flick. The combination of the completely irreverrent and creative 'funhouse' storyline combined with three of the most talented comedic actors of our time--playing more than one role at once(applause)--equates to a fun-filled, never-a-dull-moment, watch-it-every-time-it's-on-the-superst ation caper. Put a cameo by TuPac and a performance by Digital Underground on top of that and we have history in the making, folks. It's funny, it holds your attention until that last second, and they use a toy train for a lazy-susan. Sheer genius. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-3 of 3 Per Page |
