All reviews by user Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/22/2005A review of Lost in Translation by Anonymous i just didn't get it. and i get a lot of things, really. i am an erudite non-pop culture following person but i just didn't understand what all the hype was about. i am the FIRST person to recc "films" that have no special effects, that are quiet and beautifully acted, that are not neccesarily "about" anything more than just two people interacting in an interesting and or different way. but what really confuses me is this: i get that, by the end of the movie, bill murray's character loved johansen's character. not in any kind of perverted (he's old enuf to be her daddy) way but just plain, simple, nice love. but why, for god's sake? what was the attraction? yes, she was pretty and young and simple and lost like he was. but she was so BLAH. she seemed like she was on valium or something. the transparant comparison betw her and the vapid blonde was worthy of a bad lifetime channel made for cable movie. and i think coppola's point could have been made in about half the time, without all the dragging out moments. i really wanted to love this movie, since i am a huge fan of weird or independent or foreign films, but this one just put me to sleep. am i alone here, folks??
