You know that there are so many children who live with situations like this (black & white) and it's heart breaking to know it goes on. I wish the ending had been different. To just see Precious walking away with her 2 children and hoping & praying that she was going to make it and everything would turn out right for her but not knowing for sure what was in store for her. MoNique was wonderful as her mom and even Mirah Carey did a good job as the social worker. Her teacher at the special school was touching also. A good movie but wouldn't want to see it if you were depressed during the holidays. Was this review helpful? Such an upbeat movie and you're rooting for Michael all the way. Sandra Bullock was wonderful and was surprised at Tim McGraw. Didn't know he could act. I don't usually want to buy DVD's but this is one I definitely want to have in my collectiion. Take the whole family and you won't be worried about being embarrassed at the language. I had to apologize to my friend for even recommending that we see it. Jessica Alba was the only good thing about this one. Do waste your hard earned money on this one. Was this review helpful? Definitely a chic-flic but if the men would let themselves, I think they would even enjoy it. The scenes of Ireland were beautiful and you felt like you were there. Wouldn't it be great if all love was as sweet & tender as Gerry & Holly's? He definitely is the husband or boyfriend that most of us gals are looking for. I've read other reviews and the critics also have said how sappy it was. Yes, it was "sappy", but how nice to see a movie that made you happy inside and pull so hard for a small boy to find his parents. Freddie Highmore is a darling child and I know he's much older then he looks but I felt like just putting him in my pocket & taking him home myself. He's adorable. Robin Williams was a little "scary" but they didn't dwell on that in the movie that much. Not a good part for him. All in all, I thought it was a delight and I'm so glad that I got to see it. A friend had seen it & insisted that I see it. It's a love story that warms your heart & brings tears to your eyes as well. It definitely shows unconditional love and how a loving, caring family and friends can turn things around for someone. Since this wasn't made by a big Hollywood company, it probably won't get the publicity it needs to make it a big success and that's a shame because it sure beats anything Hollywood has put out for a long, long time. I didn't like the way it jumped back & forth between then & now, it was distracting. The actors were excellent and the drug addicted friend couldn't have been done better. The story as a whole was depressing but drug addiction & the loss of a loved one isn't a happy situation. Don't know if I'd pay to see it, I'd rather wait & see it on DVD. Was this review helpful? I thought it was very depressing and also that I had seen it before. I know the person who wrote it also wrote Mystic River and I believe the stories are a little similar. I'm also from an older generation and can't for the life of me understand why every other word out of their mouths has to be the "F" word. I'm not offended by it really but just think it didn't have to be used sooo often. I know it's used like "the" & "and" now but that doesn't mean everybody agrees with it. All, in all, it wasn't a bad movie but my heart really felt for the little girl at the end. Was this review helpful? Every movie he has made has been great. I took a girlfriend to see this one last night and it's been a long time since I've seen a movie that I liked this much. We both commented that it wasn't filled with four letter words that you wouldn't want your children to hear (or hear yourself) and it deals with situations that most women have had to deal with. Doesn't matter what color your skin is we all have the same feelings and desires and cry when we're hurt and laugh when we're happy. Blacks & whites aren't that different about things that matter. It's a shame Mr. Perry doesn't do more movies then he does. The movie was terrific and we need more like this one. Was this review helpful? I thought the story was so touching and Morgan Freeman was delightful as always. I didn't really see the need for the explicit sex scenes and didn't think they really added to the story line. So much more could have been added to the whole story without showing sooo much. I really think this would make any parent think about how we do things and people in general just take more notice of the loved ones around you. Worth seeing. Was this review helpful? I enjoy Anthony Hopkins and wasnt disappointed this time. It really held my attention and I was trying, like the detectives, to figure out what happened to the gun and of course, once you know you ask yourself how you couldnt have figured it out. It was really boring and even though I thought I was watching and listening intently, I feel like I missed something because parts of this one didnt make sense to me. Seemed to jump around and it was hard, for me at least, to put it all together. So many reviews mentioned the ending and it was kind of bizarre too. It was quite different from any movie Ive seen in a long time. The sex scenes were very realistic and the atmosphere with the sex offender were probably pretty typical of the way people would act having someone in their neighborhood like that. The ending was really surprising and disturbing to me in a lot of ways and so sad for all the characters. Im glad I saw the movie but not sure I would have if Id read about it before hand. Densel Washington is really great in it and seems to truly be amazed at the technology that is available to help ATF, FBI and others, even though it actually doesnt exist in reality. After seeing the previews and all the hype about it I expected to see a little more about him and the campaign instead of so much news footage from the period. I was surprised to learn that so many other people were shot in the kitchen that day. I was only aware of Bobby being shot. Dont know if that part is fact or fiction though.
