Posted: 4/26/2009A review of State of Play by Huebdoo
Ok, Great piece of "Who Dun It" - probably one of the best switches at the end I have seen since the 6th Sense, that being said Ben is not NOT the person for this role and it sadens me as I cant get past his acting to enjoy his part. Someone a little older, little more rough around the edges would have been better choice and I feel that the movie was great - even with him in it. I would suggest you see this movie if you are tired of knowing "who dun its" in about 5 minutes of a regular movie

Ok, its an amazing story - I like the fact that it didnt have some typical Hollywood ending where everything is puppies and sunshine at the end. However the movie itself reminded me so much of the movie "Shine" that it took away from the movie standing out for me. Robert and Jamie are amazing - but I would have to say the story is gritty, sad, ugly - and it wears on you as you watch it Some amazing parts - but as a whole the movie left me going "Its good, Not Great"

I really wanted to like this movie, I had convinced a great deal of folks to go to this rather another movie that was showing around the same time that everyone wanted to see (oscar winner). Not to spoil this for others - but Im sorry but there was too much going on and too little time to figure out what is going on. I knew who the bag guy was right away - I knew who the daughter was of the super hero in the first five minutes ... what were supposed to be turns and twists in the plot were so poorly delivered it was like you acting surprised when you heard that Richard Simmons was gay. Save your money - wait till the rental ... they missed so many opportunites to make an amazing movie but they were squandered on silly sub-plots and computer graphics at best - the movie gets 2 out of 5

I grew up Socialist in Canada - reading about Che and Fidel and the struggle of the worker against the corruption of the wealthy in Cuba. I realize in my later years that everything isnt as romantic, as black and white as rich against poor - communist vs. capitalist - good against evil. Che is an amazing film & I would love to see it run right after the motorcycle diaries as a testiment to how this man was to become the icon for the people. I would like for Americans to take there blinders off with regards to Cuba and see him for what this films really touches - the good and the bad - the killer and the hero that was Che. This is an excellent film and I think Oscar should come to call on it. I am not a socialist now - Like Sir Winston Churchill said, "If not a socialist in youth - one must question a mans heart - If a socialist in his later days - one must question the mans brain" Please - Go see this movie - its amazing

First off - Just because the boy is Will Smith's does not mean he can act - OH god I cringe every time he was on the screen - the chemistry between the boy and his weird relationship parent / gaurdian Jennifer Connely was very hard to stomach - it was just ugly. Keanu Reeves was ... well Keanu Reeves and I think he was good in his role - emotionally void and carried his emotions through his eyes and body shape and stature It just was an excuse for CGI - it was so upsetting as I loved the origional as a child - I really wanted this to rock - and honestly, its not worth the money - simply Rent it when it comes out on DVD

There are parts in this movie that reminds me of the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks, where the lack of dialogue is a good thing, that not saying anything can carry a better message than words can portray. This speaks to the power of Will Smith as an actor and his performance is very good and huge leap forward from some of the tripe that he has been part of in the past, he has certainly grown in his presence and power as an actor. The Dog & Dog trainer needs to be commended as the dog in the movie is a perfect straight man to Will Smith and you can see the chemistry between them that looks like they are in deed best friends, it’s a very touching relationship and reminded me of the dogs that I had growing up. I had questions about the zombies and the science behind how so many could exist on so little substance for so long (3 years into it and yet they thrive) without shirts or clothes … how do they survive the winter? All in all I found the first half of the movie amazing and I was gripped by Will and his dog, I found it truly excellent and made me (a jaded movie buff) jump from my seat. However I found the second part a slide into an attempt to end the movie within a certain time requirement rather than write the story in a flow that paced like the first half of the movie The second part seemed very rushed and with huge holes in it… where I learned so much about Will and his character, I learned nothing really of the others that came later on. Good movie, some blips that bothered me – but I found it entertaining all the same.

No this movie isnt funny No this movie has anything that resembles a script Recently many movies like HoodWinked, Doogle and now The BarnYard have come out of sweat shop media houses in India with a simple premise Pay top dollar for voice talent to participate - Pay bottom dollar for visual effects and skilled labour to make the movie The Background work is good as CGI goes - the characters are fuzzy to look at and have no real appeal or reason for me to like them or root for them. Save your money - this is not NOT something that you would see from Pixar or ILM or Lucas Films - This is something you would see when a 2nd or 3rd year annimation student with Maya could create.
