Posted: 9/14/2003A review of Superman: The Movie by ibarney
I'd never seen any of the "Superman" movies before so I decided to rented the first one on DVD. I'm so glad I did! I would've missed out on so much!
It tells the story of Kal-El (Christopher Reeve), the last survivor of the planet Krypton. He grows up on Earth under the name Clark Kent, a teen who's learning how to keep his powers a secret. After his earth father (Glenn Ford) dies, he finds a mysterious crystal, travels north, and finds out his origin from a message by his true father, Jor-El (Marlon Brando).
As an adult, Clark works as a mild-mannered news reporter in the city of Metropolis, trying to win the heart of fellow journalist Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Whenever there's trouble, though, he becomes Superman, fighter for justice and Lois's lover. But now he must face a true challenge...stopping criminal mastermind Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman).
I know this was a '70's movie, but the f/x are, like, on early "Star Wars" levels! Plus, the acting's great! If your kids have never seen a superhero movie, this is their introductory course!

Posted: 7/20/2003A review of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas by ibarney
"Sinbad" is a good movie. Children will love it and the animation is good. I know I did.
The Book of Peace keeps the world at peace. But the book is soon stolen and everyone blames Sinbad (Brad Pitt), the greatest theif that ever sailed the seas. But Prince Proteus (Joseph Fiennes) stands up for him, though Sinbad must return the book in 10 days or Proteus will die.
The goddess of chaos, Eris (Michelle Pfiefer), has the book. So Sinbad, with the help of his crew, Proteus's fiancee (Catherine-Zeta Jones), and his dog, go to get it back. He goes up against a giant octopuss, a giant bird, etc.
It's one of the best movies of the summer.

"Hulk" is possibly the best movie of the summer. It combines great acting, excellent f/x, and superb story-telling. What more could a movie buff ask for?
It tells the tale of Dr. Bruce Banner (Eric Bana), a scientist with a mysterious past who studies gamma radiation. He gets a lethal blast of gamma rays, which he survives miraculously. But now whenever he gets enraged, he turns into a giagantic, green, destructive monster.
With the help of his ex-girlfriend, Betty Ross (Jennifer Connely), he tries to subdue this beast. But he must battle 2 dark forces: Bruce's mad father (Nick Nolte), and the greedy, sadistic Major Talbot (Josh Lucas).
"Hulk" is probably the best super-hero movie ever! Ang Lee is a cinematic genius who's really pushed the envelope. It's truly a masterpiece.
