Posted: 7/29/2008A review of Hellboy II: The Golden Army by Obiwan551
I had a real problem holding back the nausea from the overwhelming force feeding of sissy-assed, feel-good mantra. Even though Hellboy saved the day, he couldn't do it without regretting to have to do what was necessary. PUKE!! Sorry, but I hold no allegiance to uphold a popular character even though the writing and story line *($@. Let's hope the next installment is back on track.

This was a great flick. The story was cool, the location was awsome and the flow was typically outrageous but that was where it was fun. Ignore the dipsticks that don't know good when they see it. Go see it and take the kids.

... and lose I did. The story wasn't bad and could have EASILY gone somwwhere more interesting and-or entertaining. I'm usually more verbose but this film left me in a deep funk partly because of the content and partly because I WASTED my money.

I'm a 55 year old WM. I went to the movie with my wife and couldn't find one I was interested in. My wife said let's try This Christmas. We've done this before and really seen some losers. This was not one of them. I can't believe I hadn't heard about this movie. Well written, well acted, well balanced... and a perfectly lovable story. I'll buy it when it hits DVD. It may not be a comedy but the funny parts are hilarious. I'm calling my friends to recommend this flic.

I'm 50 WM. Loved the poem. This movie was avacuum cleaner in a cow pasture on numerous levels. Caught a $7 DVD called Beowulf & Grindel that was far more entertaining and true to the character of the story.

It'll be just as good on DVD as the theater. THe Big Screen is unneccessary for a television movie.

Posted: 5/11/2007A review of 300 by pigheadedman
Some literary license was taken with this movie but only to the extent of putting a little hollywood into the story. The fact is, there have been few civilizations on earth that valued freedom over life. The reason this movie struck such a positive note with an overwhelming number of Americans (men, women of all races) is, we, as the beneficiaries of forefathers who valued freedom in a like fashion are beginning to wake up and realize the importance of the responsibility left us. This movie really brought home the idea that freedom is by no means free. I did not cheer at the sight of the carnage but I did accept it as necessary to tell the story. While the 300 stood fast their ground, knowing that death awaited them, they were not the baddest asses in the movie - that title is reserved for the queen. What a powerful opening salvo against the invading Persians (Iranians today) when the King glanced toward his queen for a subtle nod of approval prior to dispatching the arrogant Emissary. I felt this movie was a call upon American women to raise Men. There really are, way to few.
