Posted: 5/9/2009A review of Sunshine Cleaning by PlainTruth
This was a comedy???? There wasn't anything, I mean anything funny about it. Who writes these reviews? It is a depressing tale representing the troubled society that we live in. It contains elements, characters, plots, trials and tribulations that we are all too well familiar with from the news and personal experience and don't need to go to a movie to see and experience again. There was nothing new, enlightening, entertaining or redeeming at all. God, what a piece of crap!

Posted: 2/1/2009A review of The Wrestler by JustThePlainTruth
Someone wrote that this movie had no story line or a point. It did. It was about the roles we all play and the difficulty in abandoning them once they no longer fit. The stripper, though still gorgeous, was beginning to show her age and was having more difficulty in competing against the younger girls for patron's attention. Mickey Rourke played a wrestler of some note in his glory days, but age, health and a hard living were making it hard to even maintain the role of a weekend wrestler in High School Gyms. He tried change the definition of himself to which he was long accustomed after a major heart attack by trying to be a better father to his 20 something daughter that the demands of being on the road during his career prevented. His daughter, by the way, was gay perhaps partially as an expression of her resentment and distrust of men due to her relationship with her father. Though the daughter was initially antagonistic, there was an emotionally charged reunion that brought tears to my eyes. However, he later failed her once again. He knew then that he couldn't break out of his role. He was, and only was, the wrestler. A fantastic job by Mickey Rourke. You can tell this man has gone through some pain.

Posted: 12/31/2008A review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by PlainTruth
In an earlier review someone said something to the effect that if you are considering going to this movie and your tastes are oriented toward action or horror flicks then, do what you do when you pass a book store, walk on by. This is a perfect statement as to whom this movie will more than likely not appeal to. This is not a film for those with short attention spans or whose intellectual or emotional IQ's are south of average. However, if you are thoughtful, introspective, intelligent, and have perhaps a little experience under your belt, you will be richly rewarded by this film. It is more than inspiring, it is transforming. Absolutely beautiful and the best film of 2008 by far. PS. If you love this film, please write a review and, try to counter those who complained that it was too long. Again, we have the attention span problem indicative of chronic superficiality. We need longer movies of quality like this one.

Several times during the movie I found myself shaking my head and saying half aloud, "Come on?" or "You've got to be kidding!" I don't want to think about this movie anymore than I had to while sitting through this amateurish flick but, somebody has paid for the glowing user reviews for this waste of celluloid. I mean the worst part was a contrived ending that felt cobbled together at the last minute to wrap this disaster up. I have heard fairy tales more believable. How does Spike Lee get money to make crap like this??? A first year film production student could have done better.

Posted: 9/12/2008A review of Transsiberian by TheNakedTruthNC
I am not going to take the time to go into a long thoughtful and detailed review of this movie. Read a summary or synopisis of the movie to understand what it is about. Suffice it to say that I am surprised that it is so poorly marketed. It is a lot better, and I mean this seriously, than about 95 percent of the movies I have seen this summer and I have seen a lot. A good story line and multiple themes make this movie interesting on several levels.

Disregard the mediocre review from the critic. This was a wonderful movie and a refreshing change from the shallow fare from Hollywood. What makes it all the more remarkable is that it was based upon a true story. If you see the movie, wait for the excerpts at the end of recent interviews of survivors who accompanied Hogg when they were children on the 700 mile trek through the mountains of China to escape the Japanese and Chinese Nationalist armies. Very moving and a testament to the courage of a real life hero.

This is not the kind of movie for those looking for a shoot em up picture where the good and bad guys are clearly defined. It is, however, a movie for those who have the courage and wisdom to try to put themselves in the position of Robert Ford. Jessie James was a paranoid murderer who was thought of as a hero by the local inhabitants because of a few acts of generosity and because he was surrogate outlet for the anger that many had against, you name it, the government, the railroad, or just the hardships of prarie life. This is a major point of the film. Jessie James himself shot others in the back, at least in the film. Yet, at the end, he is thought of as a hero by many. The threat he felt by one who he murdered, shooting the victim in the back, was mostly a product of his paronoia. The threat to Robert Ford was real and he knew it. Many will say that Robert Ford could have handled the situation differently. He and his brother could have got the drop on Jessie, tied him up and turned him into the authorities. However, this would have meant taking him through a large territory highly sympathetic to Jessie. They also could have escaped and told the authorites Jame's whereabouts but, Jessie had already had forewarned them not to leave to go anywhere without his permission. If they had left to find the authorities, Jessie certainly would not have waited around in the same place waiting to be arrested. Moreover, given Jessie's history, he would have hunted the Ford brothers down and killed them, probably by shooting them in the back. In short, this is the kind of dilema that begs the question, what would you do if you were Robert Ford? Personally, I hope I would have handled the situation differently and pretty sure I would have especially in the aftermath but, if I had bought into the super human myth that was Jessie James as dipicted by many of the dime store novels as Robert Ford did, who knows?

There should be option of choosing no stars. I read these reviews and I have got to think that the studio must solicit, pay or have someone involved with the movie write them. The movie is lousy. This is only one of three movies I have walked out on in my 45 years of movie going. If the proof is in the pudding, the attendance for this movie is mediorce at best since word has gotten out about this stinker. One thing I absolutely hated was the outdated, naive and immature perspective that the movie takes on race relations. If you like musicals, you might find it somewhat interesting. To me, it was a huge waste of time and money.

Like an earlier reviewer, I question where are all these negative reviews coming from. It almost appears as if we are seeing an organized smear campaign against this film. I mean, it is really suspicious. As for myself, there has been no movie that has had a greater impact upon me. Apparently it was true of others because at the end of this film nearly all the audience stood up and applauded. It was that good. This is a movie that every American should watch.

Posted: 9/10/2006A review of Little Miss Sunshine by TheNakedTruthNC
If you have ever been to a movie and heard members of the audience laughing at the characters plight and you wonderedt, why are they laughing? this movie is not for you. It wasnt for me or my wife either. It was strange as I watched and heard some people laughing and others groaning. For myself, I was cringing. Certainly, there was a lesson but, it could not have been packaged any worse. In summary, the absolute worst movie I have seen this year and one of the worst ever. An utter and complete waste of celluloid.

Posted: 8/13/2004A review of Spider-Man 2 by TheNakedTruthNC
Even better that Spider-Man 1. The best movie of this genre that I have ever seen. Much better than the unidimensional, almost robotic superheroes in movies that I have seen in past. For those of you who are who only care for rock em sock em movies, you might as well save your money.
