It just left you hanging. I assume they are trying to leave it open for a Part 2, but they went about it the wrong way. Try ending Part 1 first before you start Part 2. Plus, no one died in the movie. It made me jump a few times and I thought the kid would eventually kill someone, but it never happened. Not worth the $$. Robert DeNiro wasted his talent on this one!
