Posted: 1/15/2006A review of Broken Flowers by Jim455
I loved this movie. It is slow paced but makes a point in being that way. Bill Murray is perfectly cast and everyone does a great job in a well written script. The subtle scene where he meets the real estate girlfriend shows this point. Is she the one who wrote the letter? Her husband says that she didnt want to have any kids with Ron and you wonder. How about the ending? Were still not absolutely sure who did what and who might or might not be the long lost son-but thats what I liked about this film. It makes you think about your own life and the choices you have made. This film was shown at the same small theatre here in Atlanta that showed About Schmidt. That was great too. Now we just need Bill Murray and Jack Nicholson to do a film together. Can you imagine?

Personally I hated this film. The socially awkward character played by SJP is the bad guy and everyone else is so PC about the two gay guys I wanted to puke. Her socially retarded attitude is magically cured by a night of heavy drinking-and no hangover either-like to get ahold of that stuff. She reminded me of the situation in Meet the Parents in that she was misunderstood. But, whereas Ben Stiller is what might be called a Protaganist and not an Antagonist lead character, the writing is much funnier. Rachel McAdams character was just nasty as well and that was a disappointment as she usually plays intelligent parts. Throw in a tear jerker ending and its a great first date movie when we are all on our best behavior. Yuck! Save your money go see Broken Flowers instead.

First of a great trilogy. Excellent writing and acting-great plot, great cast! See little Emily Perkins from IT all growed up. Witty and humorous and a joy to watch over and over. Wonderful flicks from our neighbors to the North! Two HOT sisters to boot! You gotta see them all...

From the llama to Pedro's cousins in the low-rider, from Lafawnda to Uncle Ric you gotta love this flick! Wonderful-filled with awesome characters and rewarding conclusion. You might also like Ghost World if you can dig this-or Freaks and Geeks for that matter. Loved it!

Posted: 12/21/2004A review of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by Jim455
Ok, so I was one of the three people in the world who wasn't impressed by the Lord of the Rings first film. Sorry-don't kill me. Just felt like it had been done before. The second film got a lot more interesting and I couldn't wait to see the third one. So here I am, catching up to the rest of you by seeing the Return of the King last night for the first time! They are great after all! Loved the walking trees and then the huge elephants in the next film. Gollum almost looked cute in a couple shots here, amazingly. Lots of twists of fate and complex characters to feast on. Wish I had read the book as a kid-I grew up in the wastelands however. No one recommended it to me?! Can you believe that!

Fantastic sets, cast and script. This was a fun movie to watch and I wasn't disappointed in my high expectations. Jim Carey is great and you have some promising young superstars coming up from this one. Sets remind me of James and the Giant Peach and the costumes are cool too. Top flick for 2004!

Kind of like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Irish style. These kind of institutional movies make me wish someone would make a movie about America in the year 2020 when we have a Mexican-American Republican president and the white baby boomers are divided into two retired groups-those on yachts and those in mass nursing homes for the poor. The blacks will do the unpleasant servant type jobs. After the demise of social security and our economy goes down the toilet with deficit spending we will see this come true. The most common retirement for the poor will be an early death due to cancer. Soylent Green style dinners. Let's do it!

Another instant classic from Pixar-they sure have the monopoly on great humor, plot and cool settings for their stories. Totally enjoyed this one!

Very enjoyable update of the awful family vacation roadtrip movie. Really liked the huge hamburgers and Uncle Earl at the end. Anything with Shannon Elizabeth in it doesn't hurt either. Some vehicle too!

In the same style as Soul Plane and very funny! I would love to see a movie with this attitude that would tackle a big wedding between a black and white couple. You could have the white side of the family acting all uptight and quiet and the black side of the church having a good old time with loud singing and all the misunderstandings that would come up between the parents. Kind of like Meet the Parents meets Undercover Brother.

Great cast and engrossing story about the holier-than-thou types in a religious school. Really a wonderful film!

You'll never want to eat a french fry again after seeing this one so be warned in advance! The filmaker makes some great observations and yes, it's all true. The only flaw I saw was that he couldn't tie it into a larger, more disturbing picture of our society. Why do we eat out so often? Because we now have both parents working and that means less time for home cooked meals-McDonalds is the answer to that problem, not so much the problem by itself. We should question our efforts to export our culture abroad as the answer to all the world's problems when we could learn a great deal from them as well. Do we really want the whole world to be as fat as us and unhappy with our long commutes and closed off society? Go see Mike Moores films too if you like this one. Wake up America!

Lots of fun for the kids in this old fashioned slapstick style comedy. Nathan Lane and Christopher Walken especially are hilarious in this film. Smart mouse too!
