The writer's imagination was what won me over. I could not put it down. The thought of it becoming a movie was exciting. I knew I would be judgemental about it , having read the book and loving it. When I saw it......THE MOVIE WENT AWAY FROM THE BOOK IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES!!!! It was like a nod to the actual fiction wrote in the book and the director / screenwriter did their own thing. I gave up trying to coorelate the movie to the book and just felt like I was watching another movie. The worst, the absolute worst insult to the book is was happens in the last 5 minutes. It went against the entire premose of the book how the movie ended... After my jaw dropped, I shrugged it off.
The movie itself went entirely too fast, forgot important context and MAJOR CHARACTERS from the book. Not to say things are set to be omitted from book to film. I understand that. This flop simply dismissed it entirely and made up the rest.
Oh well, go read the book. They have yet to make a movie about it...LOL Was this review helpful? But, from the opening scene we were pulled into the great story line and characters. It takes a lot to derive emotion from what I thought was a formula filled, easily corny style movie. But it was a great story that was based on the underdog and redemption of the master. Even the antagonist was not entirely evil. Once his story was revealed, it was unlike any evil-doer motivation I am used to in these movies. It was explained plainly and my son was able to grasp it to the point he asked me direct questions. I was in awe of the director and actors to develop such an entertaining movie. I wished it lasted longer. Great time for us and a sure thing for anyone wanting to be entertained.
