But it is way up (or down depending on how you look at it) as one of the most offensive movies I've ever seen. It was as if each seen was meant to shock you more. Real people do not talk like this. At least not anyone that I know. Was this review helpful? I think she's a phenominal actress but in this one was a real stinker. And the guy from Burn Notice...he occasionally had an Irish accent. The only redeaming part of this movie was the cinematography. It was awesome. The story is incredible. It's hard to believe it could've actually happened. What a sicko. Was this review helpful? I'm just not sure how to feel about the main characters. Of course we don't know every detail of what really happened. But how far and at what cost should a person go just to be proven right? My husband and I got into quite a discussion following this movie. You want to teach your children perserverence but at what cost? I'm mixed on this one. Was this review helpful? As we were leaving the theatre he said, "That is the best movie I have seen in a long time." It really was good. It was hysterical and had a wonderful message. I laughed, I cried. Go check this one out. You won't be disappointed! Was this review helpful? Regarding the movie...it definitely had it's funny moments. But it was so darn offensive. Still, it was entertaining offensive. Should've thought about that knowing it came from Adam Sandler. I loved the deep voice she used to remember names. Not great, not horrible. Probably best as a rental. Was this review helpful? Today the entire family - me, husband, 19 year old daughter and her boyfriend, and 16 year old son decided to give it a try. We all really liked it. Never found it slow. Plot twists were surprising. All in all a worth seeing movie. I give 5 stars only to the cream of the crop. This wasn't that but I would certainly recommend seeing it. Was quite funny and had a good story as well. I liked Batman (especially the last one) and the first Spider Man. My husband loves comic book movies. It was his turn to pick so this is what we saw. I really enjoyed it. Part of me was hoping for a huge success for Robert Downey Jr. The guy has been through so much. He's a great actor and this is once again confirmed in this movie. The whole story is awesome as are the special effects. My sixteen year old son went with his friends last night to see it (of course he wouldn't go with us) and he loved it! He said, "This is the perfect movie." So go enjoy. I went with the ladies today and saw McDreamy in Made of Honor. That's my type of movie. Enjoy! Was this review helpful? I organized a group of 12 woman (from age 20 to 82) to go see this. It is very definitely a chick flick. Every single one of us enjoyed this movie. Yes there are some unrealistic things. ITS A MOVIE!!! But if you want a really cute love story. If you're sick of the depressing, Hollywood trying to make a statement movies. Go see this. It's entertaining and the Scottish scenery is beautiful. I shall not ruin it for anyone but I loved the scene where they were being told what to name the first baby. And I don't know about you but I really like a movie where someone changes (for the better). Never boring...always fun! Was this review helpful? We were going to see 88 Minutes but changed our minds at the last minute due to poor reviews. This movie has humorous moments. I guess I just don't find nudity and explicit sex necessary. Is it for shock value? Do the moviemakers think that no one would go to the movie without it? It's distracting. There have been many good movies over the years that don't rely on shock value. The Hawaiian scenery was nice though. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/8/2007A review of The Golden Compass by SallyACreviewer No, I have not seen the movie nor will I. While the film itself is not (according to reviews) "anti-God" the series of books are. I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and His word tells me to proclaim Him to all. Its when this whole journey called life ends that we'll know for sure. If the atheists are right, I've lost nothing. But what if I'm right...or more accurately...the Bible is correct? It is something to think about. I'm 51 years old and did not come to know the truth until I was 43. I thought I knew but I was wrong. I can now look back and see how God has worked in my life to bring me to where I am now. For this I am so grateful. We have to be careful of seemingly innocent movies, books etc. It is very easy to be deceived. If you believe in God then you must believe that there is a dark spirit. The Bible calls him Satan. He is great at putting temptation and deception in a pretty package. And then he hits with the old one two punch of accusation. I believe this movie though seemingly harmless has an ulterior motive. Call me a right wing, Bible thumpin conservative nutjob. To that I say thank you. But I hope you'll think about all of this. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one goes to the Father except through Him. Was this review helpful? OK Nicole isn't the most credible shrink. And there were the usual unbelievable scary movie moments that would never happen in real life. But it was still a fun movie to watch. I surely wasn't boring. Every movie doesn't have to be academy award material. Was this review helpful? Though not a fan of Robin William's humor I went with my sister who wanted to see it. At first I thougt it was mocking religion. I then realized that I needed to lighten up. If you are looking for a movie that will make you laugh, sometimes hysterically and leave the theatre in a great mood...go see this movie. I loved all of the characters. It's not going to win any academy awards but who cares? It's a light, fluffy movie that will keep you interested and laughing from start to finish. Was this review helpful? I like a good thriller though. This caught my interest due to the Biblical content and the fact that Hillary Swank was in it hopefully bringing some credibility. It turned out to be an unfortuate disappointment. It was like watching a bad B movie. Is a real snoozer in my opinion. Dont waste the money. Was this review helpful? My whole family loves movies and we have an extensive DVD collection. First thing I told my two teens was, This is one that Ill buy. Will Ferrell is going the way of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler by trying something else beside the silly comedy. I have to admit that Ive never really been a fan of his, except on SNL. But he really impressed me in this movie. I loved the transformation of his character. Emma Thompson is an incredible actress and she really outdid herself. Maggie Gyllenhaal was also awesome. The reviewer who said that they fell asleep mustve been expecting an action film which this is not. This is a comedy drama that is chock full of excellent acting! Was this review helpful? This was not one his best performances but its still an extremely watchable movie. I went with my sister and a girlfriend because none of our husbands wanted to see this chick flick. This is what youd call a nice movie. As much as I love action flicks it was good to sit back, relax and look at the beautiful French countryside. The humor was pretty lame but so what? All three of us enjoyed it a lot. It did contain a lot of British slang. I guess what Im saying is that its perfect as a movie for the girls to go see. Was this review helpful? Sign In |
