This is the best. My wife and I have worn out two vhs copies and now have a dvd copy. I don't think there's a single movie I've watched more. This is corn at its best. The characters are light an funny. The "girl" is pretty. I love watching the weapon in the gun rack as they're being pulled to the rock. It moves up and down with no help from anyone around it. "They're hermaphrodites!" just about sums up the movie's scientific accuracy when describing the asexual little beasties. "She's a babe," and so is this movie. Put your brain in your popcorn bag and enjoy the show... Was this review helpful? The scene with the wave coming in over the family beach house is breath taking. Okay, the wave special effects don't jive with the warning about the wave's size, speed or impact on buildings, but this is the movies. What is looks like matters more than strict continuity or scientific accuracy. The 70s disaster flicks set this standard. Set it, carved it in steel, and ran 99 yards with it for touchdowns. The characters are strong in this movie. They have weaknesses, stupidities, and a sense of bigger-than-life drama with reasonably-normal people. "We'll all have high schools named after us" is one of the great bombed jokes in movies; a dumb joke in a stressful time that works just like dumb jokes in stressful times in real life: oops, I opened my mouth and it fell out. I have watched this movie more than almost any other. My wife won't watch it at all because it disturbs her too much. Was this review helpful? The story is surprisingly consistent (with the exception of how and when graboids attack). In a break from such movies, the women tend to be intelligent and resourceful. The DVD has very good behind-the-scenes material and an interesting alternate beginning (along with a boring alternate beginning on the jeep trail). Favorite line: "I'm a victim of circumstance." "I thought you called it your pecker." Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-3 of 3 Per Page |
