When it starts, one of the first scenes you see is the main fire in which the whole movie is centered around. It flashbacks to importants parts in Jack's (Joaquin Phoenix) life after he became a fireman. It starts out kind of cheerful and sometimes funny, and changes moods several times-from pranks on the rookies to being trapped on the 12th story of an office building in a huge fire and trying to escape, none the less, survive. It has a little bit of everything for everybody. Of course, mainly, it has action and drama. It is true that it has some similarities to "Backdraft", but this is more about the personal lives of the firemen, the realtionships between the firemen, and the lives that they have saved then it is about the fire itself. It doesn't show as many scenes about fires like "Backdraft".It is emotional, and I'll note that I heard a lot of women sniffing and crying in the theater!

Posted: 8/10/2004A review of The Bourne Supremacy by Anonymous
The Bourne Supremacy has the action that the first one lacked. The plot thickens, and you're at the edge of your seat waiting for what's going to happen next. Suprises are in store, and this is a movie that not many people can predict, but yet not too far out there. The acting by Matt Damon, as usual, is great, and the rest of the cast is good as well. The cinematography in the car chase scenes could have been better, but this movie is filled with enough action and good writing that you just kind of forget about the camera shaking during all of the cars slamming and banging into each other. Go see this movie!!

I have to say that there's just something about the movie that attracted me to it. I don't know what that is, but it's something. It could be that it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola-whose work has been anything but disappointing. Looking back, this was a movie that later launched some of them into stardom, or at least got more publicity...Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane...so many people in one movie that have still been acting. The movie makes you feel mixed emotions-you don't know if you should feel sorry for some of them, or when you should. It gets you involved with the lives of the kind of people we would never really understand or learn about-since it does take place quite some time ago. You quickly see how different of a life that they have from OUR world and life today, and that's how the attraction is so rare.

The Bourne Identity was, thankfully, not as long as the 1988 made for TV movie. Matt Damon hasn't had an action role like this before, and it's refreshing to see something new. It is confusing at times, but do you want to see a movie in which you know everything? Hopefully not. If so, don't watch it. Spy films aren't usually easy to understand anyway.

This disaster movie has plenty of special and visual effects, as well as adventure...which should be expected in a disaster movie. Dennis Quaid used his acting skills, as well as his own stunts-and so did everybody else. I did enjoy the amount of work for computer-generated images that went into making the tornadoes, the flood, etc. There were plenty of different situations and stories that they told at one time. Although, I would like to know what happened to the three British men in Scotland, because they never concluded what happened to them after everything was frozen and iced. I think they could have made a better title than that! I may not be very smart, but I could come up with something better than that title. I keep wondering-although I don't really think there will be-a sequel (?). Emmerich's mainly a suspense director, so you never know with that kind of movie. It's a great summer movie to help cool you off (Jake doesn't hurt either!).

You would have to make a pretty long movie to sum up everything in the "Matrix" series. Although they didn't do that, you can understand what's goig on...for the most part. The special effects-packed action fighting at almost the very end of the movie between Neo(Reeves) and "Agent Smith" (Weaving) was very long, just as long as the scenes with the humans battling against the Machines were. They could have made them a little shorter, since we pretty much already predicted that Neo would win the large combat fight against Agent Smith. It is nice, though, to see a woman take charge! Jada Pinkett Smith was good, but sometimes the cast is trying to act so serious that it's hard to keep a straight face. But, still, the Wachowski brothers did a good job of concluding the trilogy into one movie that is about 2 hours long.

Very original, I must say. I haven't heard of a plot like this! Conjoined brothers who get a gig on Cher's new show (by the way, Cher's love interest in the movie is Frankie Muniz, who spends a little time with her in..well, you know). It sounds very strange, but actually funny. This kind of comedy involved people who did and said stupid things that they didn't realize they were doing. Damon and Kinnear seem like being "stuck" together is a typical, normal thing for them. I'm sure they had plenty of bloopers though, since it would be hard to not just laugh out loud when your having to be "stuck" like that. It had an emotional side too, though. It's kind of suprising since this isn't a drama. It's not like it was filled with tears and sadness all of the time, but it had some "touching" moments. Sometimes it was a little predictable, but for the most part I didn't actually know what was going to happen. There isn't any big suprises, but some things happened that you didn't expect.

I think that this is more of an action movie with vampires and werewolves than it is a horror movie. It isn't that scary, but a great thrill ride. Confusing and hard to follow at times, but definitely worth a look. Kate Beckinsale is great as a kick-a** vampire with a "hungry" spirit. If you look at the Special Features on the DVD extras, you'll see how much intelligence it takes to pull off all of those stunts and special effects. Good job on action, but maybe the plot was kind of confusing. There are many different things going on, but if you love action/horror movies (and vampire movies) check this one out!!

Posted: 5/11/2004A review of Gods and Generals by Anonymous
No doubt about it, Gods and Generals gives you PLENTY of information. That's surely not the problem. But there is so much information that it's hard to keep up with. They give you so many names of people, places, and ranks that you would have to be a mental genius to remember everything off the top of your head. It's grueling almost-four hours can make make you want to take a nap, and you end up wondering after about 2 and a 1/2 hours if the movie will actually ever end. Especially since the Civil War is usually thought of as the bloodiest war ever, comparing it using the population that it killed. It was even more people-and bloodier-than WWII, and I just didn't see that in this movie.I may not be a historian or study warfare, but I know that this movie depicted the battles as people getting killed, but they don't seem to have the same impact as the battles really were. I do somewhat understand why it isn't as gory as the real battle, though. They wanted to make it so where the movie was centered more on the characters (the generals mainly, which kind of makes sense because of the title) and their responses and reactions to the war and people around them rather than the war itself. But still, couldn't it be a little more realistic? This is a historic event, and if you're going to make a war movie, hit the books first!

Can a movie get any more lame? Most of the cast that was good died in the end, and the cast that was good...let's not talk about that. I understand that it's supposed to be silly, but this isn't even half-way funny. Airplane! was funny/bizarre, but this movie is just too bizarre and not funny at the same time. I did like how they had so many short cameos in it, but didn't most of them die anyway? You know a movie isn't funny when Jack Nicholson is president and Glenn Close was his wife.

This movie has one of the most memorable lines in it..."I see dead people." Like most suspense flicks, you either hate it or love it. For those who like a predictable movie with a usual ending, this movie isn't for you. It had a big twist, but not so big that it was too far out there and not worth seeing. I also liked how Night gave you information--not too little, not too much...just the right amount, and some unsuspected cameos. Haley Joel Osment gives a great performance, and probably the best acting in the movie. The cinematography was great, especially went it's nighttime in Cole's house. Very creepy. It may be the most suspensefull PG-13 movie (besides The Ring). This movie definitely out did The Others. Great job on a great movie!!

Posted: 5/2/2004A review of The Alamo by Anonymous
Although there are weaknesses-like most movies- The Alamo is for the most part historically acurate. The acting was pretty good, especiall Billy Bob Thornton's portrayal of Davy Crockett. His character had a good sense of humor, but knew when to get serious. Dennis Quaid (as usual) was also good as Sam Houston, but didn't have as much of an appearance as Billy Bob. The movie seemed to focus more on Davy Crockett, trying to give something different by using Davy as a main character instead of Houston or Bowie. Just so you know, this movie isn't really focused on the battle, but the people themselves. You actually see more of the characters discussions then explosions or gun fighting (maybe to give it a PG-13 rating). The timing and editing could've been a little better, but no movie is perfect. But this movie has somewhat of an excuse. Again, they're trying to mainly focus on the feelings and emotions of the people in the movie. For anyone who is a Texan, see this movie! You get to see a good movie and learn some Texas history at the same time.
