Major Buffy fan, so I liked Whedons work. Went in with absolutely no expectations or pre-conceived notions. Was amazingly and pleasantly surprised. I just had to see the series after that. Fox execs, I hope, are kicking themselves for cancelling a well-done and intelligent series. Whedon managed to make a movie that would not only appeal to the die hard fans of Firefly (the series), but attract and convert new viewers.
