This is one of the best films I have seen in a long, long time, and maybe the best of 2007. The sound of this film alone is astounding. Yes, this is about an oil-man, but that's like saying Citizen Kane is about the newspaper business. There is so much here, so much to love, that it's like a movie lover's dessert buffet. There are very few directors who can match this kind of cinematic experience. Running at 2 and a half hours, it feels like half that. I saw it at a sold-out show, and I was sort of dreading all the noise from that many people, but you could have heard a pin drop during the entire running time. Once the movie starts, and the stunning music pulls you in, you'll be amazed. This film, along with No Country for Old Men and Sweeny Todd, have really made 2007 a great film year.

This film was okay. It's more of a remake of the first one than a sequel, but I still enjoyed it. It's very pro-President, so people who are fans of President Bush will like the politics. Nich Cage must know half of his dialogue was corny and preposterous, but I suppose he received lots of money for this.

This was better than I ever expected. The Central Park song and dance scene is one of the best scenes of 2007 in any movie. Disney Rocks, pure and simple. However, for me, the scenes toward the end with the dragon just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the movie. I know this is Disney, and I know it's fantasy, but the dragon scenes just didn't fit in for some reason. Wrong tone. Anyway, close to perfect, great for every age!

The most amazing thing about this film is the amazing way the director let's you understand, just a bit, the world from Bauby's point of view. There are many beautiful images here and many heartbreaking moments, and I'm still trying to figure out why the director chose the images of the icebergs calving, in reverse that is, as the end credits rolled. This one will stick with you after the lights come up.

I loved this movie! I've never seen anything like it on the screen! Great cast, great sets, great songs, and what a story! Now, I never saw the broadway show, so I didn't really know the story, so the ending for me was quite a shocker! There is a lot of blood, by the way, but it's intentionally fake-looking, and when it spurts all over the black and white and gray screen it's very effective! Helena Bonham Carter has always been one of my favorite actresses. She is great here, as she was in Fight Club and Room With a View. Johnny Depp tones down all the campiness from Pirates and is perfect for this part. This movie is one of my favorites of 2007, but I also loved No Country for Old Men this year, so I might have to see both of them again.

This film has such a great story. I didn't read the book, but I loved the story. The problem with the movie, though, is that it seemed to hurry with fascinating plot points (the revelation of the identity of the servant boy) but it seemed to take it's time with rather trite Hollywood scenes (a wedding, a hospital visit). It's almost as if the director was most comfortable with what has been done a million times before. That said, however, the acting is great, and I loved the music and the dancing (at parties) and the human heartache at the bottom of it all. It's very touching.

Posted: 12/25/2007A review of Charlie Wilson's War by Anonymous
This film is way off the mark. It sort of wanted to be a dark comedy, then sort of a serious war movie. Everyone is miscast, and the opening scene with a naked Hanks (was that him or a double?) is totally unbelievable. However, it did go by pretty fast and I never once looked at my watch or nodded off to sleep, so 2 stars. It isn't really AWFUL, but comes pretty close. Perhaps not the worst of 2007, but close.

Posted: 12/17/2007A review of I Am Legend by Anonymous
This is the perfect movie if you like to drink a lot of soda, because you will have numerous opportunities to take a bathroom break. There are some very good sequences and some good jolts, but then there are long periods were nothing much happens so you have plenty of time to take a break. It's hard to imagine that this movie had the best December box-office opening of all time. I can't imagine why. People must be desparate for entertainment and loaded with $10 dollar bills for tickets. Will Smith is very good, though, and who knew he was in such great shape?

Posted: 12/17/2007A review of Juno by Anonymous
This film is like the B-Side of Napolean Dynamite, in my opinion. It's as if someone decided to make a movie about Napolean's cousin, Juno, who goes to high school in the next county. Juno tries to be quirky, but isn't in the same league as Napolean, so this film comes off as pretty lame. However, I really wasn't terribly bored and so I will give this film 2 stars instead of one, but only because I didn't nod off even one time.

Posted: 12/14/2007A review of The Golden Compass by Anonymous
Maybe I snoozed off or something, but I was totally confused about the story. I know there was some people protesting that this film was anti-organized religion, but these must be the same people who thought one of the teletubbies was gay. I didn't see anything in this film that had anything to do with religion, and I'm 50ish, so I don't see how this could impact children. Anyway, I was bored to tears and had to stand up and off to the side of the theatre just to stay awake. One of the year's worst films. A total waste of time and money. And Nicole, dear, stop with the botox and the rest of whatever you are doing to your face. You're starting to look like Joan Rivers.

Posted: 12/6/2007A review of Mr. Woodcock by Anonymous
This film moved pretty quickly, and I was never bored and never once looked at my watch! That's a good sign! But, I found the overall story, and especially the ending with Mr. Woodcock on a stretcher...in a parade no less...a bit trite in a very let's-not-be-trite kind of way. It's as if they started with the image of an older woman in a pepto-bismol prom dress and a young hot guy in wresting gear, sat them in a hospital waiting room, and then built a script around it. However, great cast! How in the world did they get the great, luminous Susan Sarandon to do this film? A perfectly pleasant, innocuous 90 minutes. I paid $1.00 to see this movie, and used change in my glove compartment. At a penny a minute, definitely a good return on my investment dollar.

Posted: 12/4/2007A review of No Country for Old Men by Anonymous
I loved this movie. It's perfect, and just might be the best western ever. It is very suspenseful, beautifully filmed, perfectly acted and it has a lot to say about the way we live today. You will probably either love it or hate it. It is ultra-violent, but really not any more violent than last year's Best Picture, The Departed. As far as the ending. well, Tommy Lee Jones' final few words are perfect for the story. This might be the best of 2007.

I love a musical, and this was very good, very different. However, it slows down at the end. Turturo just couldn't keep up the pace. So, 5 stars for the first half, 3 stars for the second half, with an average rating of 4.

Posted: 10/21/2007A review of Rendition by Anonymous
This film for me was absolutely riveting. I loved everything about it: the cast, the acting, the sets, the screenplay, and especially the beautiful photography. I just hope with all my heart that art only imitates life, and I hope that not a single word, not a single scene, and not a single idea from this film is anywhere near truth. I do need to sleep at night. In my opinion, this is the best movie of 2007 so far.

Posted: 10/19/2007A review of Michael Clayton by Anonymous
I enjoyed this film, and I thought Tilda Swinton was GREAT. George Clooney is very good, and very handsome, and very competent, but he didn't really stand out in this film like Tilda and Tom Wilkinson. Could be a directing or editing issue. Yes, this is the guy version of Erin Brokovich, and that's okay really. For some reason, the big emotional pay-off that should have happened really didn't happen at the end. Al the issues are tied up, and I'm sure the director and actors and writer didn't want to go overboard with the end, and I appreciate that, but the ending seemed too restrained for me. However, I did find the final shots of George Clooney just staring around very mesmerizing and fascinating, much like that final shot of the couple in The Graduate. "Micheal Clayton" is just short of being great, in my opinion, but I highly recommend it.
