I thought that the movie "Ghost Town" was a wonderful movie and so I just assumed that "The Invention of Lying" would be just as great. I was wrong. I didn't walk out because I kept thinking that somehow it would redeem itself, and I'm a true believer that you cannot judge a film or a book unless you have finished it. As I watched the movie, I realized Mr. Gervais was implying that the existence of God is a lie. I have a problem with organized religion and people who do horrendous things in the name of the Lord, but this movie just didn't sit right with me. The basis of a higher power is FAITH. My faith in God is still intact, however my respect for Ricky Gervais is questionable. Was this review helpful? The 1980 version of "Friday the 13th" was so original for it's time. The killer was a regular, normal looking Mom (Mrs Vorhees), a fact that was saved until the end of the movie, not revealed in the first 2 minutes. The last seen where Alice is in the hospital asking about the boy in the lake and the police tell her they didn't find a boy - classic! When she says "then he's still out there" and they switch to a beautiful scene of a calm lake - what an opening for a sequel. Skip this version and rent the original plus Part II.
