Posted: 1/2/2009A review of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Vampgod
I went to a movie this week based solely on the past achievements of a Director I like, David Fincher. The Genius of ‘Fight Club’ and ‘Seven’ did not disappoint in his newest work ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’. This is an epic tale from the writer that gave us Forrest Gump and loosely based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story. The narrative story- telling similarities to ‘Gump’ and Southern flavor will not go unnoticed. This film is filled with detail and scope and rich characters that fill the screen with purpose and touch every conceivable emotion. The main character of Benjamin is a most lovable one played smoothly by Brad Pitt, an actor I have grown to love by his choice of films if not his sheer talent. This is a tale of a man that is born old physically and grows young as such whilst the emotional and intellectual time clock is normal. This is done believably and seamlessly with top of the line special effects, a quality that this whole film enjoys. The events and characters surrounding B.B. seam incidental but all tell a tale of their own and play a part in the poignancy of a movie that successfully relates to the audience a genuine parable. Yes there is meaning and a moral to this story but it is never crammed down our throats nor are our emotions tugged from us so deliberately through over dramatization or music. We find it over and over again in this film in our own way. There is a love story that also weaves itself throughout the film, again not unlike ‘Gump’, satisfies and yes like the rest of the movie, is a little sad. The sheer nature of B.B. condition puts him at odds with time and relationships. I have to say with the exception of one particular scene involving his love interest Daisy, The 2 hour and 47 minute running time in warranted and I found myself completely submerged in the story. This is neither a chick flick nor a tearjerker. It is not action packed or filled with slow motion kisses. What it is is a great piece of move making ...

Except for a few very unplausable moments in this film, I enjoyed this sleeper immensly. Fast paced, well acted, 70's slick and nearly well written. No Oscars hear but We had FUN.

Never surrender...Never retreat. I like the way the film seperated the warriors (Men) from the politicians(Wimps). If they had there way they would live as slaves or in TERROR to avoid war. Sound familiar Libs? Beutifully filmed. Erotic and powerful. This film is no way a threat to any secure Man. My Wife Lisa felt it was a bit graphic but liked it. Simple story with a great message. Grow some BALLS and fight for your freedom. GREAT MOVIE!!! P.S. If I wanted an accurate histiry lesson I will watch the history channel...fag.

The original Omen was a psycological thriller of such ferosity that you truly believed that the apperence of the antichrist might accually happen in such a way. The remake had the same potential but fell painfully short. The story was fine apart from the fact that I was made to believe the church was to play a part in some sub-plot...which it did not. The acting in general was either to subdued or way over the top, all shadows of the original performances. I also felt that the character of Damien was all to aware of who he was which somehow made him less threatening. The biggest let down however was the lack of a substantial score. The original Jerry Goldsmith score set such an ominous tone that you felt as if were Satan himself (with a choir) was watching on and influencing events. It moved the story and created all the suspense needed for us to fear a little kid. That academy award winning score was a character in itself... and he wasnt in this version!
