Loved the first movie. I'm a sci-fi mom (not a chick-flicker) and couldn't wait for this movie to come out. I am no shrew, but man there was a LOT of cursing and sexual references. At times it even made it hard to enjoy. Hearing Transformers use language like "Bit@H" and "Punk A$$" was just a little much. Maybe once would have been funny, but after a while it was just...uncomfortable. I'm glad I didn't take my 12 year old son. And after the first two hours I was ready to call it a night. The action was FANTASTIC - I wish they would have cut the human, cheesy, sexual, cursing stuff out and just had it all action - then it would have only been the length of the average film and much more enjoyable. I wish I would have waited for it to come out on video - then we could have taken breaks every 45 minutes or so!!!

Kristen was a perfect Bella (she was great in Speak), though her acting was off and Rob was a perfect Edward but his acting was WAAAAY off (what happened, Cedric?!) - and it goes downhill from there. Everyone over-acted and it really seemed more like a high school stage play than a major motion picture. The special effects were almost embarrassing - it reminded me of Dr. Who. Eric and Angela were terrible and any scenes with Jessica should have been deleted before ever releasing it. Watching her was like nails down a chalkboard. Carlisle and Esme were both totally unbelievable. In the end it was really very sad. These stories are fantastic and it is a shame that they never got a chance on screen. I even called a girlfriend who had not yet read the books and told her not to be put off by the movie and to read the books anyway. The best part about the entire thing was the atmosphere in the theater. The kids were charismatic and super-charged and it was hard not to be excited right along with them. It was nice to feel such strong positive energy. Team Edward!

Posted: 2/27/2008A review of The Spiderwick Chronicles by TruthWillOut
My 11 year old son has read all of the books and he really loved it. I have read the first book and am on to the second one, but I'm not quite sure whether or not I liked the movie. I don't think that Jared was portrayed accurately; in the film he behaved more like a disturbed sociopath than a boy distraught over his parents' looming divorce. I also feel that one would really had to have read the books first to clearly understand what is going on and to appreciate the movie. Had I seen the movie first I probably wouldn't have bothered to read any of the books. The movie just seemed to go too fast and they seemed to skip a lot of information. It was as if they were in a big hurry to tell the story and get on to the action. Which is typical these days. I did read all of the Harry Potter books and have seen all of the movies and I wish the makers of the Spiderwick movie would have written the screenplay in the same spirit. Given it more time for more background information. I wouldn't have minded staying a little longer to see it for a little more build up before the big scenes. And I really hated the actor playing both parts - are there no twin actors these days? I would have rather seen genuine no-name twins. Perhaps the reason I didn't completely hate it is because my son loved it so much.

You know, I can't even be mad because I knew going in it was going to be terrible, but I am still just shocked. I can't understand how writers could have such a gem as the idea of Alien vs. Predator and still do such a terrible job. It was boring. It was dark and you couldn't see half of what was going on. There were so many opportunities to throw in little "ha ha's" here or there like "Game Over, Man!" or "You are one ugly M***** F*****!" - but they didn't. Well, ok, they did one - one of the characters' name was Dallas. Whoopie! Well, I guess I look at it like month old milk - I knew it was going to be bad, but I just had to smell it! Save your money - wait until it comes out on video!

This movie was terrible, but my main complaint is that it just wasn't even SCARY. Isn't that what horror movies are supposed to be about - scaring people? Not one time did I jump or slouch down into my seat or scream out loud or get the chills. Mostly my friend and I just laughed at how ridiculous it all was. I am a true horror fan and that is what is most disappointing about the new films is that they are not scary but just depressing. When I left I wasn't coming down from the thrill of being scared. Instead I felt just sort of empty and sad and tired - and mad that I would never get those two hours or my money back. It was like going to a carnival and riding a ride that took you through the slums of Chicago or down an alley to see the homeless. I go to movies to be entertained and to escape reality, I sure as hell don't want to pay money to be reminded of how sad things are - oh, and then see blood and ta-ta's. I wish we could maybe come up with two genres and have scary ones classified as "horror" and bloody naked ones as "gore". And then people would know going in what they were going to be watching and could choose accordingly.

OK - Did I see a completely different movie than you other people? I must have because I really don't see how anyone who actually saw it could give it anything more than a two tops. Were you all brainwashed by Spiderman3? Have our expectations sunk so low now that even this turd seems to smell like a rose? Good God, people - these people make millions of dollars a film (did you catch that - MILLIONS!) and they charge us an arm and a leg to come see these movies - the least they can do is deliver something even slightly entertaining! Crappy storyline and terrible acting and non-existant action - hell, they didn't even do a decent job with Jessica's HAIR!!! Normally when a movie like this flops you can at least say, well, the storyline #%*(ed but the fight scenes were awesome - well, not in this case. The best part of this movie was the hot dog I ate just before it started. This movie was slow moving at best and what action it contained was totally predictable. The one liners were so cheezy that I practically needed crackers to finish watching the movie. I remember thinking early into the movie that it stunk, but that it would get better once they ran into the Silver Surfer - I was completely wrong. Actually, most of what you see of SS in the movie is just what you see in the trailers. I say we should demand more for our money!!!! Stop funding these tankers folks!!!!

Posted: 3/26/2007A review of 300 by Jordozmom
My boyfriend and I went to see 300 this weekend and, after reading these reviews, I am wondering if somehow we watched a totally different movie of the same name. This movie was so bad that we actually got up and left before it was over. I really thought that I was walking into another Lord of the Rings, but it was actually like watching a train wreck. The acting was so bad that at times I was actually embarrassed for the actors and uncomfortable in my seat - and I dont know whether to blame the actors or the writers. Gerard Butler was so fantastic in the Phantom of the Opera, and, though he made a very sexy King L., he acted as if it was his first time in front of the camera -which I think it really is only his second or third time - I believe he is a stage actor - I have read the reviews where people have complained about the half naked men, half naked women, soft porn and gruesome battle scenese - those were the only things that kept us there for the hour that we did stay and watch this disaster! The graphics were fantastic, but at some point there has to be dialogue and the actors have to do something besides stand there in their tan muscle-bound glory - after the sexiness wore off I was ready for a good story - didnt happen.

Was actually surprised at how funny the movie was. Chowder had me chuckling through the whole movie. It wasnt the greatest movie of all times, but it surprised me. There were some parts, though, that were pretty scary - I was even sinking in my seat at times because I was creeped out, so I cant imagine what the little 4 year old kid in the row behind me was thinking - bet he and his mom didnt get any sleep that night.
