RAM On... This has always been one of my favorites from Paul McCartney. The record got panned by critics, however. They generally enjoyed it, but called it lightweight. Maybe so, but its filled with wonderful examples of Pauls genius for writing and singing great melodies. Theyre everywhere here. The album didnt reach number 1, but it did make number 2 - and the single Uncle Albert-Admiral Halsey did reach number 1. An interesting thing about the record is that it marks the beginning of the public war with John. Several of the lyrics are directed at John - who famously and rather viciously answered with How Do You Sleep? Even the album cover art which showed 2 beetles - umm, copulating - is an obvious window into Pauls feelings at the time. This record was released barely 5 months after Paul had sued the other 3 for dissolution of The Beatles.
