Posted: 12/31/2008A review of Valkyrie by Beast_of_Burden
Overall, the movie was well done & kept one's attention. The acting was well done with one very important exception. When the actors performed with all the other performers, they were believable.... until they did their lines with Tom... he was not believable in his role & it distracted from the other actors in the scene. It was obvious (to me) that the star role was given to the wrong actor in this movie. Still...it wasn't a total waste of money... it just could have been a better movie. Hollywood still got my money so I guess that's the most important thing these days. If you must see it in the theater I suggest you catch it at a matinee price... you'll be more forgiving after seeing it. (maybe)

Score... LESS than one star First- This movie has English sub-titles. (surprise) Second- The purpose of this movie is to put a "positive spin" on the difficult life of an illegal alien in the USA. Third- The hard-working, loving father view point is used to justify driving a non-registered, non-titled, non-insured vehicle in LA by a non-licensed driver. (for a better life) For those of you who believe the borders are just to suggest that people cross them legally... have no fear... there is a "happy ending" for you. If I hadn't purchased popcorn & a drink to keep me there, I would have walked out...Comprende

Simply stated, I really enjoyed this movie. It was not an obvious 're-make' of an old movie (like True Grit) or rely on great computer special effects & 3D or be based around some cute animated figure with some "star's voice". It kept you asking questions about 'who done it & why' through the whole movie until the end. Well written & performed. Go & enjoy this one.

The people who wrote this thing tried way too hard to be 'funny' & failed. I don't blame the actors or crew for this waste of money, they can only work with what was written. Of course getting high on grass isn't interesting enough for a movie scene (or politically correct) so let's make it look more like an un-real LSD trip.(scared straight anyone? just say NO) For any single 'funny' part there were dozens of non-funny attempts. Just a big waste of time & money. I wish I could have not awarded this movie any part of a star.

I'm sure glad I didn't pay full fare for this one. Ok, the CG effects were pretty good but the film sure needed more help than that to be "a good one". If you can get a discounted ticket to see this one then go, otherwise hold out for the dvd rental.
