Never cared for all the Star Trek spin-offs - none of the captains compared to James T. Kirk - they seemed wimpy. The new/younger Kirk was good - I like him Didn't care much for the new Spock - not as good as Leonard Nimoy Fast paced story and great special effects. My wife, who isn't a scifi fan, enjoyed it. The whole plot = time continuum/alternate realities thing was a bit confusing, far fetched even for Star Trek, and hard to piece together.

nice special effects - that's the only positive bad acting confusing plot - very hard to follow it's hare to be suspenseful when you know Connor and the nerd he sends back (from previous installments) will survive the movie, otherwise how could they currently exist? no likeable or relatable characters - i found myself not really caring who lived or died

The whole movie seemed strained. The acting, plot, humor, and chemistry just didn't flow well like the first movie. It seemed phony and far-fetched from the beginning. Aztec gold temples buried in the mountatins of South Dakota?? How would that have been possible?

this movie is awful. Maybe you have to read the book first, but the "repercussions" of the false accusation are not really shown. Did he go to prison? For how long? How did he get out in time to go to war? It's just one of those movies that doesn't explain itself and leaves the viewer wondering what is going on at all times. Not to mention BORING.

Not enough action - despite great special effects and a good story, only about 3 good fighting scenes. Robert Downey Jr. was a good lead character - funny and cool without being goofy (like Toby Maguire) or overly melodramatic (Batman, XMen, Hulk, Fantastic 4, etc).

great action, well paced, super special effects. A little hokey at times especially with the whole "bring back the old girlfriend" thing and the paternal surprise. Otherwise perfect for parents and kids - 4.5 stars.

Posted: 7/1/2007A review of Spider-Man 3 by ttnttr
I have read some bad reviews for this movie in the newspaper and was worried - until I saw it myself. . . and as usual the critics don't speak for the majority of us, or at least fail to understand what is trying to be accomplished in different genres of film. After all, some movies entertain and others make a statement. The action and special effects were just incredible. Mary Jane was annoying, as usual, but this time because she's jealous that people admire her boyfriend for being a selfless superhero, but don't adore her just as much for her meager talent. I'm not even sure what her talent is : does she sing, dance, juggle, strip, etc.?? Yeah, that's pretty noteworthy in a big city, along with thousands of other mediocre entertainers. Rather than put this in perspective she remains jealous and take it out on Peter, which of course he feels responsible for and it goes on to affect his performance when he finds himself in life-threatening situations. I know it's all fiction, but it makes me appreciate my loving, supporting wife.

Do movie producers not realize what we have come to expect when we spend our hard earned money and take the whole family for an evening of cinematic entertainment??? They take us for granted as this film obviously demonstrates. Nowhere near the effort went into this film as the first 2 in the series (especially the first). Neither the writing or the animation are on par with what you expect. The whole running gag is about Shrek not wanting a baby and it got old after about 5 minutes yet it drives the storyline the entirety of the movie.

The movie was original in its characters and storyline. I also liked the mockumentary style. There were some funny moments but it wasn't a very funny movie. I felt it took itself too seriously a good part of the time, even to the point of being depressing. Also, it didn't seem possible this movie actually lasted 1hr25min like it claims it is - it seemed very short.

Posted: 7/1/2007A review of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer by ttnttr
This is an action movie???? It was incredibly boring with virtually no action scenes or special effects. The whole premise was too far-fetched even for superheroes. Somehow this marriage thing between the 2 heroes takes precedence over the fate of the entire planet, and the feel good moment of the story is when they get married, not when the planet is actually saved from annihilation. It just didn't register with me or my family. Don't waste your time or money like the makers of this flick wasted theirs, although sadly they'll probably make a bundle, and go on thinking they did a great job and that this is the type of movie the rest of us want.

Don't listen to the critics. I almost didn't go to this movie after reading the reviews in the paper and online. There is plenty of crude humor for those of you pervs who crave it, but my entire family loved this movie. Steve Carrell WAS funny and has nothing to apologize for. The pace was fast and kept your attention throughout the entire plot, without the boring side stories and character development that most directors force upon the viewers. Just a good, funny, entertaining movie. So far this summer we have been to several
