I love Abbott and Costello, and I love the classic Universal Monster Movies, so when I found this precious gem, I did 12 back flips. This film is great. Lon Chaney reprises his role as the Wolfman, and Bela Lugosi returns to play the role that made him famous. If only Karloff would've returned as Frankenstein, but Glenn Strange did the job. This film was made at a low point in Bud and Lou's career, but this shot them back up into stardom and they started plopping out a new chain of movies where they meet famous monsters. They went on to meet "The Killer, Boris Karloff", the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Mummy. I'd recommend it to any fan of comedy or horror. I give it a 8.5 out 10. Here's a list of Celebrity-Monster Team-Ups that i'd like to see: 4. Charlie Chaplin meets the Phantom of the Opera. The two duke it out to see who gets the title as the best silent-film character. Maybe Maria from Metropolis could help out. 3. Jack Black meets King Kong. Wait a minute, didn't this already happen? 2. Shaq meets Godzilla. They're both about the same height, aren't they? Aaron Carter could coach Godzilla. 1. The Three Stooges meet Jason Voorhes. Heck, the Three Stooges could be paired up with any monster and it'd be hilarious. I love 'em.

This isn't a film that shouldn't be taken seriously. You should just sit back, get some popcorn, and enjoy. If your a fan of the classic Universal Monsters (Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, The Mummy, the Wolfman, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon) than you will surely love this movie. It's sort of like Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, but Abbott and Costello are replaced with a group of misfits reminescent of the Little Rascals, and the Gillman and the Mummy are thrown into the mix. The only characters it's missing is the Invisible Man and the Phantom of the Opera. Now, the Gillman and the Mummy, are sort of unnecessary to the story, but they offer more gags and funny scenarios. Writer-director Fred Dekker grew up watching these classic films and his love for them shows. I give this movie an 8.0 out of 10. Here's a list of my "Top 5 Favorite Monster Mashes": 5. House of Frankenstein. This film features a mad scientist (played by Boris Karloff), a hunchback assistant, Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein's monster. For it's time, it was a big deal, having all of these characters together in one movie. 4. Van Helsing. This SFX-loaded film gives famous vampire hunter Van Helsing, as he battles alongside Frankenstein's Monster against Dracula, Ygor, and the Wolfman. There's even an appearance by Dr. Jekyll. Though the action slows down the story a little, this film is pretty good and has a lot of really funny jokes. 3. Mad Monster Party. This stop-motion film unites Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, Dracula, the Gillman, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, zombies, the Hunchback, and even a giant kong-like gorilla named IT. Though the film features agonizingly long musical numbers, and a pathetic attempt at a twist ending, it's a fun film. 2. The Monster Squad. 1. Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein. Posted: 1/17/2009A review of Alien vs. Predator by HickalopeProductions
If you're going to have a crossover, you have to maintain the elements that made the two movies good. This didn't really have that. The movie definately should've been set in space, like in Alien, or in the Jungle, like in Predator. Or both. But, no, it was set in the Arctic, the farthest thing from the jungle or space. Like in every crossover movie, there isn't a big fight scene until the end. The entire rest of the movie is just leading up to it. It raises our expectations so high that when we see the final fight, we are dissapointed. Why is it called Alien VERSUS Predator when they don't fight? It should at least be called, Alien MEETS Predator. Nobody cares about anything leading up to the Aliens fighting the Predators. It should've at least had Arnold or Sigourney Weaver. If you watch this, skip to the end. I give it a 3.2 out of 10. Here's a list of crossovers that will most likely never happen, but should happen. 7. Indiana Jones meets Tarzan. The jungle avengers travel to Skull Island where they team up to fight the ultimate villain... King Kong. Or maybe the Smog Monster. 6. Godzilla vs. Gamera. Both should be in suits. Maybe toss in the Smog Monster just to spice things up. 5. Gremlins meet Critters. Notice how I said MEET. The Gremlins should team up with the Critters instead of fight them, and wreak MAJOR havoc together. 4. Freddy vs. Jason vs. Leatherface vs. Michael Myers. The ultimate serial killer showdown. Maybe Norman Bates could make a cameo. 3. Robocop vs. Terminator vs. Gort. The ultimate robot rumble. That'd be soooooo awesome. Even though Terminator would just Annihilate... 2. King Kong vs. Godzilla (A Remake). The new Peter Jackson King Kong, but still the old-fashioned man-in-a-suit Godzilla. Maybe throw in the Smog Monster for good measure. 1. The Smog Monster vs. The Blob. Woah. That'd be the coolest fight ever. In the end they should fuse together to create the Blog. Yeah...

Posted: 1/17/2009A review of King Kong by HickalopeProductions
Remakes? Some are good, and some are unnecessary. This one was good. Peter Jackson's idea was simple. He loved the original, and he thought that it could be done again with the technology we have today. He pulled it off, and the result was a good, amusing movie, which makes Jurassic Park pale in comparison. There were a couple of flaws, the main one being the length. This is a 3 hour movie that could've been 2 hours. Besides that, I liked it. It remained true to the original while it had it's own unique twists. However, the original is much better and is one of my favorite movies. I give this a 8.1 out of 10. Now, I must admit, I am sort of tired of all these remakes going on now, especially the remakes of movies that aren't even that old, like Friday the 13th. Here, however, are some movies that I would like to see remade: 4.Them! A good movie, one that deserves a remake. There's plenty of other atomic-age movie monsters that could be remade as well, such as the Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. 3. Godzilla. An American version, but one that isn't a T-Rex, or a girl. One that has atomic-breath. And he should fight other monsters too, like King Ghidorah, Gigan, King Kong, and... the smog monster. That'd be awesome. 2. Frankenstein. One that remains true to the 1931 movie, not the book. 1. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. It should follow the same storyline as the original, but Abbott and Costello should be replaced by modern comedians like Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, or Jack Black or something.

Silver Surfer is awesome. So, why would you kill him off in a movie that's not even his? It's pretty much like having Batman in a Superman movie where Batman dies in the end. Silver Surfer needs to be in his own movie. And he needs to fight the real Galactus. Not some weird worm thing that swallows planets. Also, why is Jessica Alba the invisible woman? Why take someone like her and just make her invisible for half of the movie? Dumb idea. I'm not going to go into a lot of details, it had some cool action scenes, but really, it wasn't very good. I give it a 5.1 out of 10. As for superhero movies i'd like to see, here's a list: 7. Silver Surfer. By himself. 6. The Human Torch. The one in the 40s who's a robot. He's way cooler than the annoying one in this movie. 5.Green Lantern. He's awesome. 4. Aquaman. Either make a movie or have a TV show. I mean, the pilot was awesome. What happened? 3. Howard the Duck. He's not a superhero, but he's a Marvel character. Close enough. And he shouldn't be CGI. He should be another midget in a duck suit. That'd be amazing. 2. Metal Men. Again, it shouldn't be CGI. It should be stop-motion or something. Metal Men are cool. 1. Metamorpho the Element Man. I'm pretty sure he will never be made into a movie, but if he was, I would be first in line. Metamorpho's my favorite superhero. He could even kill Superman by turning into Kryptonite.

Posted: 1/17/2009A review of The Dark Knight by HickalopeProductions
I'm a huge fan of Batman, and I read the comics a lot. This movie was pretty good, but it's definately not the best movie ever made, not by a LOONG shot. One thing that bugged me about this film was Two-Face's appearance. He dosn't appear until the last 1/4 of the film and then he just dies. Two-Face is my favorite Batman villain, and I truly believe that he wasn't at all necessary in the film, sort of like how Sandman wasn't necessary in Spiderman 3. Also, when you think it's over, there's still another half hour left. This film drags on for a really long time, and it's sort of depressing. Superhero movies are supposed to be upbeat and fun, which is why i'd prefer Iron-Man over this movie. Now, one thing I did like about it was the Joker. Heath Ledger was fantastic, and in no way do I think his role got over-publicized because Heath Ledger died. He was really like the Joker that appeared in the really early Batman comics in the 40s, where he's dark yet funny at the same time. I can't decide who my favorite is, because Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson and Cesar Romero both play completely different Jokers. This movie isn't the best superhero movie, (I personally like Iron-Man, Spiderman (1 and 2), Superman (1 and 2), and Tim Burton's Batman), and it is definately waaay overrated, but it is way better than Batman Begins. I give this movie a 7.2 out of 10. In the next Batman movie (which I believe is called "Gotham"), I know Johnny Depp is playing the Riddler, but I would also like to see Mr. Freeze. Robin definately shouldn't be added into the mix, but a sidekick should be added, preferably Bat-hound. Yeah, that'd be awesome. Or Bat-Mite. That be amazing. Actually, they should have Batman fight Dracula. The battle of the bats. I would so see it.

This film is great. It's one of my all time favorite films. The Ghostbusters are the dream team of comedy, next to the Three Stooges. Hilarious. I give it a 9.3 out of 10. If you haven't seen this movie, go rent it. Right now.

Posted: 1/4/2009A review of The Bride of Frankenstein by HickalopeProductions
Although the original, 1931 Frankenstein was a great movie, this movie just blows it away. This is one of my all-time favorite movies and is the greatest horror film ever made. However, it is not just a horror film. It is drama as well as a subtle comedy. There are so many aspects of this film that I could analyze, but I will analyze just the basics. The plot is much more appealing than the first one. It starts with a really interesting prologue about Mary Shelley (played by Elsa Lanchester, who also played the monster's bride), Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron. It draws you in with an arsenal of new and quirky characters, but it also goes on to expand on the characters from the original. We learn more about how Victor Frankenstein (played greatly again by Colin Clive) is guilty of his creation and we sympathize with him. There are two new characters that are really appealing as well. Minnie the housekeeper (played by Una O'Connor) and Dr. Pretorious (played by Ernest Thesinger). Minnie the housekeeper is a typical James Whale character. She is really odd and provides great comic relief in times where it is really unexpected (this is a trademark of Whale). Dr. Pretorious is very, very strange and different. He delivers really funny lines as well as weird, philosophical questions about life and death. He is a really great character. The highlight of this film however, is Karloff's achievement as the monster. He is absolutely incredible. His portrayal of the monster has gone unmatched for 77 years and is one of the greatest performances in film history. You fear him as well as sympathize for him. He is much more than the stumbling, grunting, hands-extended image that has been created thanks to Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., and Glenn Strange in the following films. Now, don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of Lugosi, Chaney Jr. (and his father), but Karloff is awesome, and so is this movie. I give it a 10 out of 10.

Posted: 1/4/2009A review of Hancock by HickalopeProductions
I was really kind of dissapointed by this movie. I watched it over at my friend's house, and he liked it, but I did not. Now, the first half of the movie is actually really good. It's almost like a super-hero version of "Rocky". There's this bum who has the potential to be something great, then somebody comes along and turns him into a hero. Now, I thought that this was kind of an original and creative idea because you normally think of super-heroes as big hot-shots who are perfect, but this guy has problems and everybody hates him. This part of the movie was really cool and I liked it. Then, out of nowwhere, the movie dives into this really bizarre plot about how Hancock is immortal and that he has a sister who is married to his friend's wife and how whenever the two get near eachother they become mortal, and whenever they fight a big hurricane comes and destroys the city. Ok... WHAT?!!! That aspect of the movie really weakens it and leaves you really confused. It's almost like it's two completely different movies crammed into one. The latter half of the movie has nothing to do with the preceding half. They should of stuck with the story in the first half, because that one was a lot more appealing. I give this movie 4.5 out of 10.

Posted: 12/21/2008A review of The Evil Dead by HickalopeProductions
Wow. Going into this movie, I really didn't expect much. I was really blown away. It's got such a strange appeal to it, and I just love. It's got a really eerie atmostphere and, much like in 1954's "The Creature from the Black Lagoon", it has a sense that you have nowwhere to run. The story is simple, making it have no rules at all. Anything can happen. What really stood out to me was Bruce Campbell's performance as Ash. His character is a little stiff, but he goes on to perfect the role in the sequels, "Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn" and "Army of Darkness". Director Sam Raimi, like me, loves The Three Stooges. A lot more of that kind of comedy can be seen in the sequel, so be sure to check that out too. There's a lot of dark comedy throughout, sometimes so dark that it dosn't even seem like comedy, so it needs to be watched a couple of times. It gets more and more enjoyable each time I watch it. This is a fun movie, and nothing more than that. If you like what Sam Raimi can do with a huge budget (especially in Spiderman), then you will love what he can do with a low budget. If you haven't seen this movie, you're doing an injustice to yourself.
