Posted: 3/2/2006A review of Iron Maiden by mega-minnesotan
This has to be one of the all-time best debuts in metal history. It is very hard to name a single album as Maidens best, but if I had to choose my 3 favorite Iron Maiden albums Iron Maiden, The X Factor, and Powerslave would have to be my favorites. I give every song on here 5 stars. There is really a song for every style that Maiden have played here a 7 minute epic, a couple slower songs, a mid-paced anthem, and even a lightning-fast instrumental. It also includes live performances of Iron Maiden and Phantom of the Opera. This is the only album to feature Dennis Stratton on guitar, which is unique and too bad. He was a very good guitarist. If you like Iron Maiden or any type of metal at all and dont own this, buy it immediately!!!!!

Its very unfortunate that Annihilators career never took off that well, but if you can get your hands on this CD you wont regret it. From the kick@ acoustic guitar intro to the ludicrous speed tempoed Human Insecticide, this album is definitely worth your money.

I love this album, if it was an LP I would have it framed. But for some reason though it wasnt quite as good as the 1st Use Your Illusion. Dont get me wrong though, this album clobbers anything grunge bands from Seattle put out. The only band from Seattle that was good was Queensryche, and theyre not grunge. Civil War You Could Be Mine are some of GNRs most important songs to emerge from the Use Your Illusion records. Knockin on Heavens Door was lightyears better than their cover of Live and let Die. Get in the Ring, Estranged, and 14 Years all rock, too. The only song that GNR put out that I HATE is My World. If Chinese Democracy sounds like this (and there is some possibility that it will, now that Axl is all by himself) Im gonna get rid of it pretty quickly. That is sickening to hear Axl Rose do a rap (not that hearing anybody rap is any good either).

This album rocks from start to finish. People say that there is lots of filler, but there isnt. It is all good. The Garden may take about five or six listens before it doesnt @#$%, but otherwise this album is PERFECT. Many reviews say that Use Your Illusion II is better. How can it be? UYI II has a lot more ballads, not to mention GNRs worst song, My World. There is a conflict of egos and songwriting, but that only enhances how well the songs are played. Izzy wrote too many good songs to list, but there is also room for Axl writing songs like Dead Horse and November Rain. Slash also had a hand in the songwriting. He may not have written many songs here but they really make the record great. His contributions such as Bad Apples, Dont D@mn Me, and my personal favorite, Coma are amazing. Be sure to own this even if Hair Metal isnt your favorite genre.

I have never understood how people of my age love Slipknot and KoRn and hate bands like Dio and Iron Maiden. These are metal CLASSICS that really helped define the genre. People see Johnny Cash as a legend. I never understood that either. Johnny Cash wrote some boring country songs. How is he legendary? When I think of a legend, Ronnie James Dio comes to my mind first. In my opinion, you are not a TRUE metal fan if you dont like Dio.

This was the last Metallica record. Meaning the last Metallica album that didnt try to attract new fans and fail. The Black Album was great, but the Loads and St. Anger &*$#ed really bad. This is the perfect album. On a CD with 10 tracks or less, there is NEVER filler. Every song rules. It is hard to tell what the best Metallica record is. But if I had to pick one Metallica album to have for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this one. If you are looking at the reviews and are thinking about whether or not to get it, the decision is obvious.

Posted: 1/23/2006A review of Rust in Peace by mega-minnesotan
Oh how I love Rust In Peace in its unremixed glory. This is the way the music was meant to be heard. If you have either the original or the remixed version, you should hopefully appreciate how good this album is. Many of my friends listen to nu metal and say Metallica #^!@s. When I ask them if they like Megadeth, they have no idea who Megadeth are. Thrash needs to come back. Bands like System of a Down have made thrashy music but have no guitar solos whatsoever. Anyway, enough about how much nu metal #^!@s. This album is definitely an essential component to any TRUE metalheads collection. The first 3 songs kick off to an excellent start and have me banging my head the whole time. Five Magics is a very cool epic. Poison Was the Cure is another fast-paced thrasher. The rest of the songs are all 5 stars. This album stands right up there with Slayers Reign in Blood and Metallicas Master of puppets. If only it had came out in 1986 Megadeth would have likely surpassed Metallica. Get this album if you dont have it.

Reign in Blood was lightyears farther than Master of Puppets. I cant really believe that both of these albums came out in the same year. Reign has to be the heaviest and most brutal thrash metal album ever. My parents would kill me if they knew I had it. This was executed in the way that metal was originally meant to be.

Posted: 1/23/2006A review of Steal This Album! [Explicit] by mega-minnesotan
Many people say that this album is terrible collection of B-sides. Fans have to realize that a LOT of material can be written in 3 years. Toxicity, though obviously not a concept album, dealt with problems in society today. They had decided to select the right material for Toxicity. But thankfully it was released. It was actually Steal This Album that got me into SOAD. This was at a time when Mezmerize hadnt been released. Toxicity seemed too serious and weird (I, regretfully, listened to a lot of hair metal at the time and didnt like really heavy metal). Obviously I have changed my musical preferences and own every SOAD album. Steal This... had songs like Innervision, Bubbles, and Boom! that really showed a lighter side to SOAD, even though Boom! was about bombs. For people who dont like System of a Down and havent listened to this, I strongly reccomend to buy it or do what the title says.

This is the first AC-DC album I own, and it simply cannot be beat. It is a true landmark in rock n roll history. With songs like Its a Long Way to the Top and T.N.T., a few lost classics like Live Wire, this is essential to any rock collection.

Posted: 1/13/2006A review of Psycho Cafe by mega-minnesotan
I used to listen to nothing but hair metal. One summer I heard Metallica and loved it. For a while I listened to nothing but thrash. Even though I had many hair metal CDs, I still didnt listen to any of them. One day I saw Psycho Cafe at a pawn shop and had heard that it was really good. When I still liked hair metal I had tried to bid on this on Ebay, and it sold for 20!! I bought it at the pawn shop and love every second of it!! Bang Tango was definitely the most underrated hair metal band that existed. They should really remaster it and put it back on the shelves. If you can get your hands on a copy of this CD, what are you waiting for?!

Posted: 1/13/2006A review of Virtual XI by mega-minnesotan
Virtual XI is one of Maidens more underrated albums. The only reason for this is because of lineup changes. Everyone thought that Maiden was going to break up when their vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, left in 1994 and when their guitarist, Adrian Smith, left in 1990. Both members were widely loved by many fans. That should not be a reason to hate this album. It rocks! 1. Futureal - A nice, fast-paced starter. 2. Angel and the Gambler - Though long, it is a very well-written song that may take some getting used to. 3. Lightning Strikes Twice - A melodic epic. The chorus sounds nice. 4. The Clansman - Heeere we go!!! One of Maidens best epics ever. Almost as good as Fear of the Dark. 5. When Two Worlds Collide - Somewhat similar melody to Lightning Strikes Twice, but better written. 6. Educated Fool - A slower song, but good though. 8. Dont Look to the Eyes of a Stranger - Even slower. Gets boring pretty quick. 9. Como Estais Amigos - A sad ballad about war victims. One of the best on the album.

Posted: 1/12/2006A review of Rock In Rio by mega-minnesotan
Maiden have done it. They have been around after 20 years and still put on the best concerts in the world! It is like Live After Death, only it has many songs that were written after Live After Death was made. The reunion was great, but lets face it, Brave New World sounded really boring and the songs were very slow. Rock in Rio is a much different story. If you dont have it, get it. This is ESSENTIAL to any Maiden collection.

Posted: 11/29/2005A review of The X Factor by mega-minnesotan
About a year ago I listened to Maiden for the first time and started collecting Maiden albums as fast as I could. Many reviews said that the X Factor was an awful album. So I decided not to get it. One day on Ebay, I saw the X Factor for sale and looked at the page. One of the reviews on the sellers listing page said that the album was probably their best album yet. So I bid on it, and couldnt believe my ears! This has got to be one of Iron Maidens best three albums ever made. It is very dark and slow, but those are things that makes this one unique! The songs arent about a man in the heat of battle, these songs are about the guys after the war is finished and the hardships that they will endure for the rest of their lives. If you really want to know what this album is like, listen to Metallicas One and picture that on a much bigger scale with much more artistic songwriting. This is by far Maidens most underrated album yet!
