I guess you have to pretty dark to be a huge Stephen King fan; I admit I definitely lean towards the dark side. Blame my parents who took me to see the original Night of the Living Dead when I was a very small child. This movie was not only a mostly-faithful adaptation (I hear the changes were approved of by Mr. King), but an incredible expansion of the basic novella. Some extra characters were added, and some behaved slightly differently. The creatures were scarier than I could have imagined. And the ending: Twisted, but in a mind-blowing, jaw-dropping way. At least unlike Mr. King's novella, it had an ending. P.S. The audience at the showing I just attended applauded when the most evil character is dispatched. I think that says a lot about who likes and doesn't like this movie.

"The Cabin in the Woods" was Joss Whedon & Drew Goddard at their brilliant best. One of the most original and unexpected endings in horror movie history. A great twist on the standard teen-slasher film--maybe this one is for more mature adults?
