The Help I will be 70 next month. My family returned to the south after living in Denver for nine years. I had never known segregation in my memory. As a young girl I was horrified when I got off the plane. Separate everything. My birth city, in the south, was not as bad as the movie expressed, but those I met from Mississippi and neighboring states, told of stories such as seen in The Help. The performances, the scenery, the writing were so much a part of the reality of the times, I was amazed. My grand daughter, 16, saw it with me after we had spent the morning watching the 9-11 memorial. After the movie, I said to her that she had experienced a day that would teach her what hate can result in.
