OK...it had it's funny moments. But it is way up (or down depending on how you look at it) as one of the most offensive movies I've ever seen. It was as if each seen was meant to shock you more. Real people do not talk like this. At least not anyone that I know.

My husband and I went to see this today. My whole family loves movies and we have an extensive DVD collection. First thing I told my two teens was, This is one that Ill buy. Will Ferrell is going the way of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler by trying something else beside the silly comedy. I have to admit that Ive never really been a fan of his, except on SNL. But he really impressed me in this movie. I loved the transformation of his character. Emma Thompson is an incredible actress and she really outdid herself. Maggie Gyllenhaal was also awesome. The reviewer who said that they fell asleep mustve been expecting an action film which this is not. This is a comedy drama that is chock full of excellent acting!

I'm so glad I didn't read any negative reviews before I went to see this. I organized a group of 12 woman (from age 20 to 82) to go see this. It is very definitely a chick flick. Every single one of us enjoyed this movie. Yes there are some unrealistic things. ITS A MOVIE!!! But if you want a really cute love story. If you're sick of the depressing, Hollywood trying to make a statement movies. Go see this. It's entertaining and the Scottish scenery is beautiful. I shall not ruin it for anyone but I loved the scene where they were being told what to name the first baby. And I don't know about you but I really like a movie where someone changes (for the better). Never boring...always fun!

Movie holds your interest and is well acted. I'm just not sure how to feel about the main characters. Of course we don't know every detail of what really happened. But how far and at what cost should a person go just to be proven right? My husband and I got into quite a discussion following this movie. You want to teach your children perserverence but at what cost? I'm mixed on this one.

Pertaining to the last review, I don't understand why someone would wish another to fail. Regarding the movie...it definitely had it's funny moments. But it was so darn offensive. Still, it was entertaining offensive. Should've thought about that knowing it came from Adam Sandler. I loved the deep voice she used to remember names. Not great, not horrible. Probably best as a rental.

I have to tell you. My husband and I went to this movie because our 15 year old daughter wants to see it. It's rated "R" and I always make a point to see it before her so I can make a judgement call on if it's OK. I expected it to be a movie that just appeals to younger people. I have to admit, I have a hard time watching some of the brutal subjects - child porn, animal torture etc. But this was a heck of a good movie. Ashton proves he actually can act. Such is true of the rest of the cast. It's a squirmy movie. Makes you uncomfortable. But I recommend it for anyone who likes a supernatural type thriller. There's a bunch of sexual situations. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to let my daughter go. Oh the agony of motherhood (of a teenager).

I'm a major movie fan who really wanted to see something beside a sequel. Though not a fan of Robin William's humor I went with my sister who wanted to see it. At first I thougt it was mocking religion. I then realized that I needed to lighten up. If you are looking for a movie that will make you laugh, sometimes hysterically and leave the theatre in a great mood...go see this movie. I loved all of the characters. It's not going to win any academy awards but who cares? It's a light, fluffy movie that will keep you interested and laughing from start to finish.

I have to start off by saying that I am not a fan of the comic book type movies. I liked Batman (especially the last one) and the first Spider Man. My husband loves comic book movies. It was his turn to pick so this is what we saw. I really enjoyed it. Part of me was hoping for a huge success for Robert Downey Jr. The guy has been through so much. He's a great actor and this is once again confirmed in this movie. The whole story is awesome as are the special effects. My sixteen year old son went with his friends last night to see it (of course he wouldn't go with us) and he loved it! He said, "This is the perfect movie." So go enjoy. I went with the ladies today and saw McDreamy in Made of Honor. That's my type of movie. Enjoy!

I had read so much negative stuff about this movie that I really didn't care if I saw it. Today the entire family - me, husband, 19 year old daughter and her boyfriend, and 16 year old son decided to give it a try. We all really liked it. Never found it slow. Plot twists were surprising. All in all a worth seeing movie. I give 5 stars only to the cream of the crop. This wasn't that but I would certainly recommend seeing it. Was quite funny and had a good story as well.

I knew this fell under the horror category and generally stay away from them as they are not my favorite. I like a good thriller though. This caught my interest due to the Biblical content and the fact that Hillary Swank was in it hopefully bringing some credibility. It turned out to be an unfortuate disappointment. It was like watching a bad B movie. Is a real snoozer in my opinion. Dont waste the money.

Yes, I am a Christian and a youth leader in my church. I took 20 teens to see this and they all loved it. We had a discussion comparing the movie to Christs life. I was amazed how much they picked up on as generally Im yelling at them to pay attention. One has to keep in mind that this is a story and not the Bible. I would have liked to see Aslan as more powerful. But Edmunds transformation was flawless. Great movie! You dont have to be a Christian to enjoy it!

My husband and I just got home from the movies. As we were leaving the theatre he said, "That is the best movie I have seen in a long time." It really was good. It was hysterical and had a wonderful message. I laughed, I cried. Go check this one out. You won't be disappointed!

I have to admit I was disappointed. I figured the ending out way too early. M. Night's movies are all rather slow moving. But generally they pack a whollup. This one is watchable but not up to the standards of the others. The other reviewers were correct in the lack of scariness though there were a few tense moments. Is just an OK movie.

I have to admit that I didn't expect much. But this one caught me right from the beginning. I love a story that puts someone who has lost their memory with objects that have no apparent meaning. Ah...but then things start to come together. It's a fun movie. It's not going to win any awards but I sort of like going just to be entertained and this one did it. Before I saw the movie I saw Ben being interviewed. He said that sometimes he feels as though he's sold part of his life for money. I find that a bit sad.

Posted: 12/8/2007A review of The Golden Compass by SallyCarroll123
No, I have not seen the movie nor will I. While the film itself is not (according to reviews) "anti-God" the series of books are. I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and His word tells me to proclaim Him to all. Its when this whole journey called life ends that we'll know for sure. If the atheists are right, I've lost nothing. But what if I'm right...or more accurately...the Bible is correct? It is something to think about. I'm 51 years old and did not come to know the truth until I was 43. I thought I knew but I was wrong. I can now look back and see how God has worked in my life to bring me to where I am now. For this I am so grateful. We have to be careful of seemingly innocent movies, books etc. It is very easy to be deceived. If you believe in God then you must believe that there is a dark spirit. The Bible calls him Satan. He is great at putting temptation and deception in a pretty package. And then he hits with the old one two punch of accusation. I believe this movie though seemingly harmless has an ulterior motive. Call me a right wing, Bible thumpin conservative nutjob. To that I say thank you. But I hope you'll think about all of this. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one goes to the Father except through Him.
