Daniel Day-Lewis Outstanding! Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln is worth the price of admission alone. Watching his performance I felt riveted and moved. He was that convincing. I read on IMDB, that director Steven Spielberg, went to painstaking details, such as recreating the wallpaper in his White house office, to Lincoln's actual books. Details like this, I appreciate in a film, you get the sense of transporting back to that time in history.
Having said that, Sally Field was completely miscast as Mary Lincoln. Sally is a decade older than Lewis, and Mary Lincoln was a decade younger than her husband. I read that Spielberg was at first resitant to casting Field, because of her age, he should have listened to his gut. Her scenes were often over acted.and she has no chemisty with Lewis.
I especially enjoyed James Spader and Tommy Lee Jones in their roles. The movie is moving, the battle field scenes were so real, it was chilling. There was a few slow moving scenes, bu all in all, a great movie.
